Update: Crash on southbound I-5 has cleared

WSDOT just sent this alert: “On I-5 southbound just south of West Seattle Bridge (MP 162) there is a collision blocking the 3 left lanes.” If you’re about to head in that direction, you might consider an alternate route.

4:16 PM UPDATE: This won’t be a problem for the evening commute – it was moved to the shoulder, per a WSDOT tweet last hour.

Was listening to the scanner when this call came out, sounds like a car flipped over on it’s top, one self extricated and another needing extraction, does not sound all too serious, most units code green.

    Speed likely a factor

    Hope everyone is ok.

Hopefully it wont be as bad this time but this happened a few months ago and traffic was backed up to Lynnwood for I 5 south. People were cutting over to an already crowded 405 south, adding to the I 90 westbound volume as well. When something like this happens in the metro Seattle area, it has impacts which ripple 20 miles in each direction. Frustrating!

Not seeing this on wsdot or on mobile traffic apps like king 5.. does anyone know if this is clear? Thanks.

Yes, it’s clear. I updated the story and thought I had responded to the comment, yet the response has vanished. Sorry ’bout that. – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
