Update: Rollover crash on bridge, victims found off bridge

1:13 AM: Very busy night for police in West Seattle, and they’re investigating another incident now – a rollover crash on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge. According to scanner traffic, police have found the crashed vehicle – but no one inside; two people may have taken off.

Just saw this coming home from downtown.. scary! Also saw a drunk driver in a older white ford driving up Morgan, he almost took out several mail boxes, parked cars and then finally my car. Got on the phone with 911 but luckily a cop happened to pass so we informed him. Be careful out there!!

So were they thrown from their cars or did they try to run from the scene but were hurt too bad to do so? So sorry to hear about this though.

    Any updates in this story?

Nope. At this rate, I have little hope of being able to get followup info before Tuesday.

Bonnie – The distance from reported crash scene to 23rd/Andover could only have been covered on foot unless someone had wings – the Delridge onramp is roughly a block from Andover, and 23rd is uphill from there.

We live within earshot of the Delridge onramp and the bridge. Just after 1:00 am we heard a prolonged screeching of tires, and then the sound of a crash. We couldn’t tell exactly where it was, but we were looking in the direction of the bridge deck or under on Spokane St. Seconds after the crash sounds, saw someone pulled over in the westbound lanes of the bridge with emergency flashers on. Looked like a light colored SUV or wagon. The car remained there for several minutes, but left before any emergency vehicles arrived. I’m guessing the driver saw the crash from the opposite direction and got out to give assistance seeing the crashed occupants departing on foot.

I didn’t see anyone coming down the onramp on foot, but neither was I looking for pedestrians. I did see a fire engine hauling butt the wrong way on the onramp and heading back towards Andover around 1:15.

It was weird for sure, but didn’t get the rest of the story until just now reading the WS Blog, my FIRST source for all news West Seattle!

Thanks, Steak. It was a strange one, from the scanner standpoint – went out as a “heavy rescue” call as rollovers usually do – then the crews got there and radioed “here’s the car but there are no patients.” There was so much scanner traffic last night because of the shootings elsewhere in the city, etc., that I cannot be 100 percent sure some fragments later were related to this, but after the two turned up at 23rd/Andover, the call location changed to that on the 911 log. The bridge spot where the car flipped/rolled was NOT visible from cameras …

When the scanner call came across, it came from another driver who first saw the car and then saw it “disappear.” For the first moments it sounded like it had gone over the side of the bridge proper, but that was soon put to rest.

    • WSB May 29, 2012 (4:21 pm)

Sorry to hear it, Shan. I wasn’t able to get more info today but will check tomorrow on the stolen car aspect … and what happened to the two people who left the scene, beyond being transported to the hospital. Wouldn’t judge the whole city on this, though. Overall, it’s a fairly quiet place, especially our side of it – TR

Stan don’t worry too much about getting your car stolen as much as getting shot in this city. Damn people are getting killed everywhere. Run for the hills!!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
