Wondering when A Terrible Beauty will open in West Seattle?

Now that Zippy’s Giant Burgers has celebrated its reopening (WSB coverage here), the next restaurant-opening question peppering the WSB inbox is: When will A Terrible Beauty open in The Junction? WSB contributor Katie Meyer has been checking frequently on its progress (including taking the photo of the sign that went up last week). Katie says the latest word from co-proprietor Jenna is that they probably are still a couple weeks out, much as they wish things were moving faster. (The site has been given an extensive facelift as well as much interior work; previous exterior touches covered here included the stonework and the green paint; it’s only been a bit over two months since the Renton-founded Irish restaurant/pub announced its West Seattle expansion plans for the California/Edmunds NE corner.)

We walked by this weekend when the door was open, they really are doing “extensive” work in there. I cant wait to see it though, brief glances looks like its going to be amazing. Perhaps a solstice opening for luck?

Oh, I hope they are open in time for summer fest !

So excited for this to open! Luck of the Irish to all!

The Terrible Beauty in Renton is my Wednesday Happy Hour spot, I cannot wait for the one in West Seattle to open so I can make it my Sunday Breakfast spot! My husband and I are so excited and can hardly stand the anticipation.

Ate at the Renton location a few weeks ago – good food..

I’m very excited! It’ll be nice to have an alternative to the Celtic Swell (not knocking the Swell, I’ll keep going there–but the more pubs, the merrier!).
    .
I see the Renton location has sessions, I hope the West Seattle one does too!

I think the Bang Bar next door has its open sign lit. Hope so!

We’re checking daily on them and they’re not open yet to our knowledge, though we’ll dispatch somebody to check :) – TR

I was realy excited about this opening until I ate at the Renton location for the first time. If it is in West Seattle, I will be perpetually broke and 200 pounds overweight instead of 20. Food was terrific and my beer drinking companion was impressed with the variety of beer.

the sign font has thrown me into a dark depression, from which i will never recover

Very excited for this. I hope they have a pub quiz night!

Johnny, I sympathize. I am also utterly pained by the use of a poem commemorating rebellion and subsequent brutality to name a bar. just what i want to think of whenever i accompany someone to get a pint….
(W.B. Yeats, “Easter, 1916, fer them not up on their early modern poetry.)

  • Owlish June 1, 2011 (10:11 pm)

Please. Yeats would have pulled up a stool and ordered a pint.

  • lawdylordalmighty June 1, 2011 (11:19 pm)

congrats, melissa. you’ve accomplished what was previously thought to be unattainable. you are actually bitching about the opening of a bar. an irish bar, at that. perhaps there’s one of yr commerades on this board that will run down to the church and say a rosary on your behalf. failing that, i fear there is little hope for you, ma’am.

    good day,

    lawdy lord…

Oh lawdy lawd, don’t get yer knickers in a knot over Melissa’s comment. Instead, take a gander at Yeats’ beautiful and intensely moving poem. I don’t have a problem with the pub’s name, myself. A Terrible Booty would be far worse.

For those that haven’t been to the location in Renton yet, you are in for a treat. Great food, good beer selection, and cool atmosphere. My only disappointment is that West Seattle has a wealth of awesome bars, did you really need to steal one of the few unique places Renton got to call their own?

Aaaaand back to the opening of a Terrible Beauty. Please hurry…I cannot wait! It will be lovely to end a day at the West Seattle Summer Fest there. Best O’ Luck!

I walked by there last week and peered in the window. A guy came out and invited me in to have a look. Most of the materials they are using are second-use which they have refurbished beautifully… even the front door!

  • Dave June 2, 2011 (8:40 am)

Shawn that makes no sense, it’s the same ownership.

Otherwise, I am going to open “A Terrible Booty” next door. Sonoma, you have the next 30 seconds to contact me for naming royalties.

  • datamuse June 2, 2011 (3:21 pm)

Hey, maybe it’ll get more people reading poetry. I can get behind that. And I love Yeats.

  • Dorska June 2, 2011 (10:43 pm)

I can hardly wait to see Ockham’s Razor perform in West Seattle AND to get one of their giant Reuben’s. When, when, when?

  • Mehhhhh June 3, 2011 (1:48 am)

Ama Ama had a perfect interior. Sad to see it all ripped out for a theme bar.

  • dawsonct June 4, 2011 (8:49 am)

Ama Ama had a good interior for Ama Ama. Had they left it in place, you would have FAR more people complaining about how an Irish pub shouldn’t look like a mid-50’s era Las Vegas lounge.

Sorry, comment time is over.
