Speaking of traffic: Alaskan Way Viaduct weekend closure reminder

Hate to bring this up while so many are still dealing with this morning’s commutemare, but WSDOT just sent a reminder about this weekend’s Alaskan Way Viaduct closure (we first warned you 5/26). It’s related to the south-end replacement project, and it’s planned for 11 pm Friday to 5 am Monday (unless work wraps up sooner, as it sometimes does). Details here.

What is the city government’s plan for West Seattle? Make getting into the city so unbearable that westside property values plummet even further, ultimately creating a large scale ghetto to make the rest of the city look good and improve urban density? Hmmm… that doesn’t make much sense. Maybe they are thinking that if we are cut off from the rest of the city we’ll form some kind of detached, self-sufficient utopian society!

    Obviously there is no plan.

Rebuild the Viaduct just west of the existing one – Forget the tunnel – what happens when tunnel is jammed? – and an emergency vehicle needs to respond to an emergency or a car fire or a seawall leak when an earthquake hits?

All this just to appeal to earth conscience citizens who are getting a park for homeless drug addicts to hangout in or rude dog owners who don’t pick up and lose parking for tourists and businesses by trading so the rich developers and real estate tycoons can raise costs of their commercial/residential property and develop sites with out Viaduct in their view. The rich already get enough tax breaks.

Vote no on the Viaduct and make McGinn accountable – he was voted in only for the fact he said NO TO THE TUNNEL Citizens DON’T WANT IT and he has no kahonas to stand his ground on issues.

And Governor Gregoire needs to go also – but don’t Vote in Rob McKenna either – he has the most scandalous, deceitful, lying attorneys that work under him in the Attorney General’s office whom are constantly wasting taxpayer money & resources on false CPS cases just to keep lawyers and social workers employed. He wastes hundreds to millions of dollars with no accountability to expenses.

Gregoire should cut Rob McKenna’s budget first to save the State from closure. VOTE NO 4 Rob McKenna in any office.

Maybe Jay Inslee has a better brain than these three idiots.

Perhaps this weekend they will make the “Bus only” lane on 99 (after the WS Bridge) open to all cars. I expect that would help the West Seattle commute to downtown and allow more space to merge.

    Hello CW,

I wanted to respond to your comment about the bus-only lane. This weekend’s closure affects all lanes in both directions of the viaduct. Crews are removing sections of two support columns and we cannot allow vehicles on the viaduct while this work is occurring. More details and graphics showing how it will all happen are at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR99/HolgateToKing/Column_Demo.htm
