West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2011: The benefit sales

(EDITOR’S NOTE: We are continuing to add photos to this update and others on WSB, which are grouped by category. For even more photos, sale by sale, each identified individually, go to westseattlegaragesale.com – sellers/buyers are also posting to facebook.com/westseattlegaragesaleday – thanks!)

On the West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2011 maps, you’ll find more than a dozen sales labeled BENEFIT – they’re raising money for a group, or a person. In the case of Sale #204, 9843 42nd SW in Arbor Heights, that’s longtime WSB’er “JanS,” above left, with daughter Jessica. Jan is facing a kidney transplant – for which they are hopeful Jessica might be a “living donor” match. Once she gets the operation, she won’t be able to work for a while, so Jessica and friends are raising money today to help with Jan’s living expenses. Here’s some of what they are selling:

Terri, have you checked on the Facebook page – for the last few days, lots of people have posted “here’s what we have, here’s what we are looking for” – http://facebook.com/westseattlegaragesaleday – TR

Thanks TR! I’ll take a look. BTW, this is a wonderful event!

Is this whole event really only 1 day? :( I can’t make it today and I’m so bummed! It seems like it would be more worthwhile to have it the whole weekend so that people who can’t come out on saturday, could come out on sunday…..

Thanks, Crystal. Usually the day after WSCGSD is Mother’s Day – this year was a quirk – and nobody’s going to be out yard-saling, though we certainly could mention “if you decide to have a 2nd day of your sale we’ll mention that on the map.” Or maybe we’ll take a poll to see if people want to tack on an extra hour next year. Another organization started this and ran it the first three years, and the only thing we’ve changed since taking it over for 2008 and beyond was that we cut the fees and moved the registration and mapping online, but we haven’t really changed anything else. Thanks for the suggestion! – TR

The guy with the stop sign waved it in front of my car as I was driving by. Reflexively I stomped on my breaks (it was a freaking STOP sign!) and nearly got rear ended.

Find a better way to get people’s attention.

Sorry, comment time is over.
