Barton Street P-Patch breaks ground, seeks field marker

Thanks to the Barton Street P-Patch team for sharing photos from Saturday morning’s groundbreaking/volunteer-signup event. They celebrated the placement of a marker for the “web” design chosen for the 34th/Barton garden site after three community meetings, but need one thing to proceed:

We are looking to borrow a sports field marker to mark the P-Patch pathways prior so we can begin sod removal … anyone with a lead on a sports field marker is requested to e-mail construction coordinator Kate Farley at kfarleylandscapedesign@gmail.com. We would like to mark the pathways sometime this upcoming week, weather permitting

The city’s webpage for the project is here; on Facebook, there’s a Barton Street P-Patch group here.

There will be a work party to mark the Web design beginning at 6:00PM Friday May 20. Anyone interested can come out, watch, give pointers and or join in the fun.

Work parties to cut sod from the pathways are scheduled for Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 from 9:00-5:30.

Below is the plan for the day.

Fence installation Laura Campbell will head this up 9:00 a.m. Saturday with Kate’s direction
Sod cutters-machine Kate will lead the Friday night demo session and Saturday 9:30 kick off with Bonnie starting the cutting
Sod cutters-spadework-cutting sod into 1′ sections for easy lifting; No back injuries allowed this weekend!
Sod movers-wheelbarrows Making sure wheelbarrows are not filled more than half full and go to the right areas according to plan
Sod patchers-berming Randee will be in charge to make sure guidelines are followed with “Green side up” on top of berms
Sod removal on sloped edge along 34th -by hand Paula will head this up starting at 9:30 Saturday morning

We still need volunteers to keep an eye on kids. Sign ups are for 2 hour blocks of time. Please check in at the Outreach table.

We will be following strict guidelines for tree protection and treatment of the SDOT ROW.

Sorry, comment time is over.
