As we’ve been reporting, tomorrow night is grand-opening night for the renovated Southgate Roller Rink in White Center – but tonight, some lucky skaters got a test run, and Deanie Schwarz – who was first to report the renovation plan back in February – was there for WSB and partner site White Center Now. Bob, I’m sorry to say I cannot stand on skates for more than approximately 1 1/2 seconds. Tried roller skating, ice skating, surfing … even when I was a third this age and half this size, my lack of balance just torpedoed the whole thing. Patrick, however, showed some style way back before Southgate closed, when Junior Member of the Team was in a school that went there for “P.E.” … um … hm … that was first grade, and now he’s in high school … been a while! Does anyone know if this is a whole new floor, or if the floor was there and they just refinished it? It looks great! Blow back to 8th grade!
Nearly all of the floor is original and has been sanded down and refinished. He added some extra flooring on the North side of the floor so that it will comply with the WFTDA guidelines for a standard Roller Derby track. :-)
