West Seattle Crime Watch: Alki Ave. SWAT sighting reported

Thanks to Marty and Lia for e-mail about an early-morning SWAT sighting near Anchor Park on Alki Avenue SW (map); traffic was blocked for a while but Marty says it IS now getting through, and that the officers had announced themselves on arrival as there to serve a warrant. He also says SWAT’s gone but other police vehicles remain. We’re checking with SPD for additional info.

Soph and Jeff, SWAT teams (or Anti-Crime Team, which some mistake for SWAT – they wear black, etc.) are involved in warrant service all the time. See, most recently, the FBI arrest in Genesee Hill. Jeff, this activity started around 6 am, per Marty. Not likely to have been related to 3 am sirens – turnaround time for a warrant would be longer. The 911 log (which shows fire only) has a few WS calls in the 1-2 am hour

      .
If it was definitely later, it might show up later on the incident-response map, which has a longer lag time … TR

I wonder if that’s related to all the sirens I heard around 2-3 this morning.

It was earlier than 6. I was out on a morning run, saw the team roll in. On my return portion of the run, it looked like they were finishing up the operation. I figured it was just a drill.

Kudos to the PD, what ever they were doing, it went smooth and quiet.

It was exactly 6:00 when I woke up to their loudspeaked declaring “Seattle Police serving a search warrant!”. It was anything but quiet. They just removed a woman from one of the police vehicles and removed her handcuffs. She left in a private vehicle. Still a couple of vehicles there, but it appears that they are winding down.

Sorry, comment time is over.
