West Seattle Volunteer Recognition Awards: Winter winners!

This Sunday afternoon at 1 pm in The Junction, we hope you can take a few minutes to stop at Hometown Holidays Headquarters (by KeyBank) and applaud the latest winners of the twice-yearly West Seattle Volunteer Recognition Awards. You nominated them; reps from the Southwest and Delridge District Councils picked the winners; and along with the councils, WSB co-sponsors the awards. We customarily announce the winners a few days ahead, but in case you want to be surprised, we’re putting the list after the jump –

We’ll run more details of the honorees’ achievements after the ceremony on Sunday. But for now, drum roll …

Environmental Volunteer: *Patrick Dunn* (Sustainable West Seattle treasurer and key leader in creation of the West Seattle Tool Library)

Community and Organization Volunteer: *Roxanne Simonds* (Family Promise of Seattle board member)

Youth Volunteer: *Sawyer Coe* (16 years old and has already been volunteering for five years, from food banks to greenbelt invasive removal!)

Group: *West Seattle Be Prepared* (working to make sure our area is ready for disaster, just in case, particularly through the 9 Emergency Communication Hubs)

Whether you know any of these volunteers personally or not, please take a few minutes out of your busy holiday weekend to stop by Hometown Holidays HQ at 1 pm Sunday to celebrate the great work they do for our community. This is the first time the ceremony’s being held without a built-in audience – so having you there means a lot! (And you’ll be close to the Hometown Holidays excitement like free mule-carriage rides, Santa photos for a $15 donation to WestSide Baby, etc., not to mention the final hour of the West Seattle Farmers’ Market, so there’s no place better to be right about then, anyway.

Previous winners are listed here (summer 2010), here (fall/winter 2009), and here (summer 2009). See you Sunday!
