West Seattle scenes: Crosswalk countdown; market sign

Two photos from a jaunt out-and-about during this spectacularly sunny afternoon: While we were in The Junction checking on a few things, Michael from Liberty Bell Printing pointed out that the crosswalk signals at Walk-All-Ways have been switched to the increasingly common “countdown” style – so now you know exactly how long you have to scamper diagonally (or otherwise) to the other side. Meantime, in High Point:

Thanks to Jake for sending word that the sign’s up for the market going into a spot on property owned by Hans’ VW at 35th and Graham. We reported on the new market three months ago, when support was being sought for a “change of use” permit to make it possible. We will keep checking to see if we can find out how soon it’s likely to open.

Having a hard time understanding why we spent the money on these new lights at this intersection. Was it somehow required due to the Uniform Traffic Code or ADA or some such regulation?

Frankly, I think the “all ways walk” and the timing at that intersection works remarkably well. Vehicles don’t wait long, peds don’t wait long and traffic moves through there pretty good – in spite of the heavy bus traffic.

Seems like the money could have been not spent, or spent on a more neede pursuit.

The Mini Market opens Mon, 11-8, at 9am, according to a High Point announcement.

thank you! that’s not on the Web any place I can find. the High Point Neighborhood website does not seem to have been updated in almost three months.

I’m so glad you let us know these were new. I saw them yesterday and was worried this was the first time I’d noticed that they were count-down.
    .
Eddie – could always be that they needed to replace the old ones anyway – I’m sure crosswalk lights don’t last forever. Who knows – maybe these are more energy efficient than ones that were probably 20 years old.

Sorry, comment time is over.
