Followup on call for help for West Seattle shooting victims’ family

Following up on the urgent call for help sent out late yesterday by Southwest Youth and Family Services‘ Cara Kroenke, and published here as well as circulated on local mailing lists – Cara just left this comment on last night’s story:

THANK YOU to everyone who is helping the family! SWYFS is beyond lucky to have such a loving community. We have raised the $1800 thanks to you and are now using the remaining money to help cover the costs of moving. They will be moving into two separate households (if all goes as planned) and will need deposit money, moving help and whatever gently used household items you might have. Does anyone know of a good storage company here in West Seattle? We could really use a small space to store the larger items until they move into permanent housing. Thank you for all you do to help SWYFS make the community safer and supported! Yours, Cara

If you missed the original coverage, this involves surviving family members of the three people killed by a West Seattle woman one month ago before she killed herself, all members of her family, as was the lone shooting victim who survived.

    Cara –

This is a storage facility in Burien rather than WS proper, but the rates are far less than any in WS. Not only more affordable, they also pre-screen all renters before a unit is given out. I don’t think many other facilities screen as well. They’ve received awards over the years for that fact and are a very good, family-owned (30 yrs) business.

I agree that something just outside of the WS area would be more affordable, but if they have to keep it local, I have found that the UHaul on 35th has storage spaces and they are priced at or below what others in this area charge.

They are ALWAYS understaffed and slow and the manager **erased because I could not find anything nice to say…**, but the only thing you need them for is to get the house key to the site locks. Security is good (24/7 video monitoring to all public spaces) and the price is pretty good) in comparison to the other WS storage places and they are easy to find and get to.

Perhaps there is a church or another similar local facility that would allow for short term storage for this family?

I am glad I could donate here. I often read the news today with a numbness. I needed to provide at least some help to these people. Thanks WSB for the opportunity.

I just recently heard about the terrible shooting, as I was out of town. I am very saddned by the loss of these family members. My prayers go out for this family.

Some of the family were my landscapers at three of my properties. They also did work for my employer for many years.

If you need any gardening, please contact them as I am certain they could benefit by addition work.

The Father and son, Chin were always pleasant, smiling and we shared many fun moments together.

    With Love and Blessings,

    Linda

Please be gentle on the landlord, too. We don’t know what his/her situatiion is. Time are tough for a lot of us.

Sorry, comment time is over.
