Two items in West Seattle Crime Watch. FIRST: A scare in the 5400 block of 26th SW (map) just before noon. A man claimed he had been shot. Police and fire responded, and determined he had not been shot, nor assaulted, though he was “scratched up.” According to Det. Mark Jamieson in the SPD media unit, investigators are still trying to sort it out, but the initial belief is that the man was either under the influence, or having psychological problems, leading him to make the false claim. SECOND: A wild night at a Fauntleroy/Raymond (map) apartment building, according to the couple who wrote with kudos for police, and an account of what happened – read on:

Hey WSB, we just wanted to write and give mad props to the West Seattle Precinct of the SPD.

(Monday night), we heard some activity at the window of the downstairs unit, and could then see a man hanging out inside the empty apartment.

We called SPD and they showed up tout de suite and arrested the guy.

When the officer came up to let us know what was going on, he said they had arrested the West Seattle version of the Barefoot Bandit, who said he had stopped by to do his laundry.

The tenants below us were evicted ten days ago and there have been suspicious activities the last several nights.

Officer said there were items in the apt obviously belonging to more than one person.

Word travels fast, obviously.

Anyhow, we are fans of SPD and appreciate all their efforts on our behalf!

Sincerely,
Walter and Julie

We got a PS from them a bit later – saying police had to come back because someone tried to break into the SAME apartment at 2:05 am!

Meantime, a reminder that it’s a week till Night Out go here to sign up for permission to close your street for a block party – and please also let us know the address/contact name if it’s OK if we stop by for a WSB picture – we traditionally spend Night Out roaming between events.
