Sorry for the technical speed bumps tonight

We’ve been planning some upgrades – mostly the behind-the-scenes stuff that you wouldn’t notice immediately, but which would pave the way for us to make some much-needed improvements – and we’d hoped to be able to warn you before we started tinkering with the live site, but a little earlier tonight … we suddenly had to tinker with the live site, without warning. So you might have noticed some slowness. If you notice ANYTHING different regarding the way you access/navigate the site, including the iPhone version if applicable, PLEASE let us know, either in a comment or through e-mail etc. – we are still kicking the tires following a major upgrade in content-management-system versions, and we also are upgrading the WSB Forums‘ behind-the-scenes stuff, which could lead to some hiccups we won’t notice till you point them out. Thanks for your patience and help!

glad things are worked out. one item that is a little wonky.
the 5 minute ‘edit comment’ feature (when posting on a main page article) doesn’t seem to work for me anymore. (on firefox)

Thanks, Sam. I got a note this morning that an “edit” feature was broken but the note didn’t say whether it was comments or forum posts – now I’ve verified it’s the comment edit future – sorry for the inconvenience, hope to have that fixed today – TR

I view this site via the iPhone quite a bit (though not right now), and the regular site seems fine, but the Forum page is a little screwy. The top of it is a long list of menu items, and then the main page does not auto-fit in vertical view.
Also, is there a reason that “Forum” is not on the drop-down menu in the mobile site? I have resorted to bookmarking it separately, since it is inaccessible otherwise.

Thanks, Voodoo. The forum is run on a separate management system but is intended to be compatible with our main content-management system- however, not integrated to the point where the navigation menus talk to each other. I am hopeful of having this fixed soon and appreciate your patience. Will also see what we can do about the Forum page view in the iPhone theme. Sorry again for the speed bumps – we were supposed to have more time to do tirekicking on a test site, but things didn’t quite work out that way, so you all are helping with the tirekicking “live” – TR

Noticed that you can’t click on “member” under a forum user name to see someone’s posts anymore (used to be blue/linked). Was looking for a particular topic when I realized.

Our tech ace is working on that right now – I got an e-mail about it too. Thanks and keep kicking those tires! The comment editing feature SHOULD be fixed, by the way, here on the main page – let me know if not … TR

Forgot to mention, earlier today I was making a Forum post, and tried using the “[strong] [/strong]” tags.

    .

The result was the tags being visible in the final post, and of course, no bolding of the targeted text.

Thanks for the feedback on our feedback. One other thing I am noticing in iPhone view on the blog – when I click on “Skip to comments” it kicks me down to the box to enter comments, and there’s still another link to view the comments. Didn’t it previously open up the comments?

  • WSB December 4, 2009 (5:09 pm)

Interesting. Shouldn’t be doing that – I have used the iPhone view often and skip to comments did just go straight to comments. Will have the tech ace investigate – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
