West Seattle business news: Seen in The Junction

Got that photo from Brian at TouchTech Systems in The Junction – he spotted those signs in the window of the storefront in The Junction formerly inhabited by Funky Jane’s. “Heavenly Wholesale,” we’ve seen on A-boards all around WS. “Leslie’s, A Country Store” brings back memories of the similarly named business that preceded The Bohemian at 3405 California SW (though at the time, two and a half years ago, that closure was described as “retirement”). Nothing in the city’s business-license database to yield a clue at this point but we’ll be checking tomorrow!

I love the quirky things that take over the vacant spaces in West Seattle. It makes me think the character of our lovely neighborhood will continue to be around for quite awhile.

Yes, and those A-boards were generally illegal. There are rules about where advertising can be placed, and thousands of other West Seattle businesses have figured out how to follow those rules. I never understood why this one business felt that they were special, and those rules didn’t apply to them, or why they thought that the public sidewalks should be blocked by their signs, making passage extremely difficult for anyone pushing a stroller, or using a wheelchair.

What if every West Seattle business decided to chain giant A-boards on sidewalks several blocks from their businesses? Fortunately, most businesses follow the rules.

The signs created an unpleasant, tacky appearance, that damaged the business climate for OTHER West Seattle business persons.

Each time, when the signs were reported to the city, city workers would eventually remove the signs and explain the rules to that business – costing tax dollars – but the signs would just go up again.

I hope that this business won’t reintroduce that illegal advertising method. If they do, I hope others will join me in promptly reporting.

I think the Heavenly Wholesale place used to be in building next to “Knock Out Auto Body” and across the street from the VFW – Googlemap 3602 SW Alaska St. and check out the sign on the gray building.

I totally agree. Those A boards are unsightly and if all businessess put them out it would be a total mess. No one could walk the sidewalks. I, too, have wondered how some businesses could have such limited understanding.
AND, this also goes for those real estate agents that ignore the rules and post signs on electrical and telephone poles and in the parking strips along street but not in front of their listing that is for sale. They should get the message too that the neighbors do not appreciate their signs.

There’s a new shop going in to that location on Alaska. Mountains to Sound Outfitters will do ski and snowboard sales, rentals and service. Projected “soft open” the week before Thanksgiving with Grand Open slated for November 27th. Wohoo!

Will reserve judgement until I see it but this sounds like it has the potential to be a really junky storefront. Say what you will about Wingdome, but at least they’ll have a professional sign and look like a real business.

Sorry, comment time is over.
