SUMMER CONCERTS AT HIAWATHA:
The concert series was a hit and plans are already in the works to do it again next year. There will be an effort to increase the diversity in the music, but certain bands will be asked back as well. To provide feedback regarding the concerts, music types, or what you thought was successful or not successful, e-mail coordinator Katy Walum at: katy.walum@gmail.com.

DEVELOPMENT:
No updates for either the Admiral Safeway redevelopment or the 3200 block of California rezone. But the 2743 California Avenue project—the 14,100 sf medical and administrative office building behind PCC (WSB sponsor) — is moving forward and a hole for the foundation has been dug.
NEIGHBORHOOD DESIGN COMMISSION:
Members of various West Seattle neighborhood groups are working together to form a design commission board to discuss what the Alaska Junction corridor “should look like.” This board would consist of invited individuals from certain fields such as architect, engineer, planner as well as other community members. This group would help to give individual neighborhood plans “teeth” and work to implement the plans the communities have been working toward. Catherine Barker of the ANA will focus on historic preservation for this group.
NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN STATUS UPDATES:
Results from the Status Check meeting of July 28 and the ensuing survey will be out this fall. Watch here:

SPEAKING OF WEBSITES:
For admiralneighborhood.org — updates are coming! President Mark Wainwright is working with Zicada Designs to update the website and make it more interactive.
ADOPT-A-STREET:
Two more Adopt-a-Street events this year: October 3 and December 12.
ADMIRAL TRICK-OR-TREATING FOR HALLOWEEN:
The ANA is offering assistance to Admiral Junction businesses for the Halloween Trick-or-Treating event
MAINTAINING “WALKING ON LOGS”:
Catherine Barker is working as a community coordinator with Stan Lock of the City to keep the planted area around the “Walking on Logs” sculptures clean and landscaped. The individual who had been volunteering his time clearing the area will be retiring, and the city is looking at a joint effort between itself and community volunteers for continuing upkeep.
BOARD NOMINATIONS:
Open nominations for Board positions: President, Secretary and Treasurer. Any member of the ANA may nominate or be nominated, except current Board Members. Elections are in November and the new group will take over in January.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS REP:
The ANA needs someone ASAP to coordinate the efforts with the city and other West Seattle neighborhoods to implement emergency preparedness plans. The next radio test (where individuals are provided hand-held radios and sent to different neighborhoods to see how effectively they can communicate with each other) is September 18. Please contact Mark Wainwright.
The Admiral Neighborhood Association usually meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 7 pm, Admiral Church.
