West Seattle Crime Watch: Stolen stroller

Just out of the WSB inbox, from Blake:

We had our jogging stroller stolen out front of our yard in broad daylight this afternoon at 34th and Othello [map]. We were standing 30 feet away when it happened but didn’t notice. We purchased it this Monday to exercise with our 13 month old child. If anybody sees a green jogging stroller for sale in the West Seattle area, please contact me at bjs210bjs@gmail.com.

Blake says they don’t have a photo. Which leads us to a point police made when we were talking with them this afternoon (working on a story about a burglary bust, which you’ll see here tomorrow) – be sure to keep identifying information so that if your stolen property is found, it can be returned to you more easily – that means serial numbers, photos, or etch an identifier into the item.

Sorry for your loss. I often see stollers for sale at again and a gain on California Ave across the street from 7-11. You might try there.

The same thing happened to me yesterday on 45th between Admiral and Lander – late afternoon. I was so disappointed and frustrated when I came back out of our home after about a half hour to head out on another walk and it was gone. We headed to the park anyway and found it in a neighbors yard about 6 or 7 houses down the street. Seems someone had taken it for a joyride and left it in the street. Our neighbor put it in her yard hoping that someone would walk by and notice it. Try walking around and perhaps the same thing will happen for you. Hope it turns up and good luck.

This brings back bad memories. My 2 year old’s wagon was stolen from Hiawatha by the play structure when we went to Starbucks for a coffee run. It was 4 years ago and yes, I am still bitter.

Again and A Gain is a consignment shop, not a pawn shop. You can’t put anything up for sale there without giving out your name, address and phone number. Not exactly the kind of setup you’d use for fencing stolen property.
And of course they always have strollers there. They are a licensed reseller for BOB strollers.

Interesting! I also had a jogger stroller stolen last night. The kids and I walked up to Full Tilt in White Center for some ice cream. We were not inside long but the stroller was missing when we stepped back outside.

People who steal strollers are going to hell.

Make sure to check craigslist for a while, you’d be surprised how many people find their stolen stuff there. Some name brand joggers easily resell for $300 +… the easiest way to deter would be thieves is a simple, cheap bike lock. Most often if it takes any effort to steal they’d rather leave it!

Sorry, but it you left a wagon at the park while you went to for a coffee run, the wagon wasn’t stolen, it was abandoned.

    To Donna:
It is my fault. My fault for feeling that leaving a wagon for a few minutes near a play structure in which moms and kids were playing on would be okay. It had two sippy cups filled with water in it. I hope you feel better by making such a snide comment.

Is the West Side of Seattle safe other than stolen stollers? Can you give me a run down on the level of crime in this area or direct me to a site – – I’ve been trying to research. Thanks so much.

Sorry, comment time is over.
