Video: Band Jam in West Seattle, on Torchlight Parade eve

That’s the Seattle Schools All-City Band – students from all over the city, including more than a few from West Seattle (which is also home base to ACB director Marcus Pimpleton, leader of the Denny Middle School music program) – performing Friday night at Southwest Athletic Complex during the first-ever Band Jam. You could say they were warming up for tonight’s Seafair Torchlight Parade downtown, and two of the other groups joining them last night are on the parade lineup too (which we just found here) – the Rainbow City Band and the Cranbrook (BC) Girls’ Bugle Band. (For more on tonight’s parade, beyond the lineup, go here; West Seattle will have plenty of representation in addition to ACB members – there’s also the mayor, the West Seattle Hi-Yu float/royalty, West Seattle members in parade staples like the Seafair Pirates, Seafair Commodores and Seafair Clowns, and 2 princesses in the running for Miss Seafair right before the parade … if you can’t be there in person, KIRO shows it live on channel 7 and online at kirotv.com … if you are going, remember there’s an extra King County Water Taxi run at 11:30.)

WOW! Brought back memories of when my boys played in the band. Great job, Marcus. So proud of you and the kids!

I’m on the first run of the water taxi and the captain announced 10:30 and 11pm final runs but not the extra 11:30 as WSB linked to. I talked to the captain and she said “they” didn’t tell “us” about that so I hope she checks soon to get the announcement right.

Hmm. Not only was it on their webpage, but I was also flagged to it by a high-ranking county staffer a couple days ago, so it wasn’t just a renegade web producer adding a paragraph for fun … TR

As one of Marcus’ classmates and friends, I remember seeing him drag around his huge instrument case. He kept with his passion, so to recognize his name at UW games and now getting notoriety as ACB director is refreshing to hear. Keep up the good work Marcus!

Mr. Pimpleton is also now leading the Chief Sealth Marching band, to the excitement of many in the area.

Unfortunately, the kids who went home to watch the recorded version of the torchlight parade did not get to see the All-City Band as Kiro ran out of air time and they got cut off right before they were on.
The Band Jam was awesome, Torchlight in person was awesome, the kids did a fabulous job and deserve all sorts of recognition.
Marcus, they are here because you opened a door. Thank you.
