Followup: More information on Westwood Village shooting

Police have released more details this morning on the shooting that injured a man outside the Westwood Village McDonald’s late last night (original WSB coverage here).

On 06/02/09, at 1126 p.m., the suspect and victim met in a parking lot, located at 2600 SW Barton St. The suspect was angry about a vehicle he had purchased from victim because the victim could not come up with the vehicle’s title. After a heated argument the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. The suspect got into a Silver Honda Accord and drove away from the scene. The victim was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department and transported to HMC with serious (but not life-threatening injuries).

Police say the victim is 24, the suspect 23 (and still on the loose).

That qualifies as the dumbest thing I’ve heard this year. The “suspect” obviously gave his name/address/phone/etc to the “victim” way back when since he was buying his car. Why shoot someone and just walk away when everyone KNOWS who you are? This guy is SO stupid he should be locked up for life just on general principle!

They should have just taken it to Judge Judy.

As I read comments on many of the crime postings, I don’t see any or very few people commenting on how sad it is that we live this way. Are people just used to it or as upset as I am but just don’t type it out?

I am pro active in my community, maybe things are just so out of hand that there is not much any one person or group of people can do?

We publish our news in multiple streams and FWIW I’ve seen a few comments along that line in reaction to our breaking coverage last night on Twitter, for one. Eventually there’ll be a way to meld all the discussions on the same topic regardless of where they take place … TR

Why are we surprised by this, our schools churn out adults with inflated sense of entitlement it’s more important that you feel good about yourself. Who cares if you have any pragmatic skills to find a job be productive etc as long as you feel good about yourself! Our high drop out rates reflect this, why work hard or hold people accountable for bad behaviour it’s never your fault.

I’ve heard that ALL legitimate car sales occur at 11:26pm. Right?

I think this is systemic of what’s beginning to happen in West Seattle, we live in a fairly good neighborhood and have not one but two houses nearby that the police have visited twice in the last week for violence and drug usage. We’re starting a neighborhood watch…….

our schools are not churning out entitled students – parents are churning out entitled children – this behavior starts at home, is nurtured at home and our schools along with the rest of our societal institutions take the brunt of lack of parental backbone

    Well said, homesweethome.

Wow . . . scary! What is going on in our little West Seattle? We must all keep our eyes open and watch what is going on around us.

what may be interesting is to track the response (news media beyond WSB, but also our community’s responses to it on the WSB) to this crime and compare it to reactions to the shooting on alki.

  • Rorschach June 3, 2009 (5:55 pm)

This article was like a Rorschach test for Dave. Two guys meet just before midnight in a parking lot over a disputed car sale that turns violent and it’s somehow the public school’s fault.

A medical doctor said the shooter was suffering from a chemical imbalance.
A social worked said it was likely poor parenting and abuse.
The politician said it’s time to start anew program.

After we’re done blaming our personal favorite causes of all problems societal, let’s just hope this person is doing the time for the gun crime and not amongst us for awhile.

Good God how many shootings does West Seattle have annually? That young man killed up on California Ave, the 19-year-old shot in the back on Alki, this young man, and wasn’t a grandmother killed with a shotgun recently?

So anyone wanna buy a condo on Alki? These loud cars and motorcycles are killing me, it’s simply not enough to have a police presence – they need to enforce the cruising law, parking, speeders, loud music ordinances, and kids hanging out of their cars yelling at pedestrians.

Has West Seattle always been like this? What have I moved into? It’s such a nice, close community but Porches flying by at 2:00am, helicopter searches on the point at 3:00am? Seriously?

the victim is the one who pulled out the gun I heard.

Sorry, comment time is over.
