Worried about swine flu? Constantine arranges briefing tomorrow

If you’re worried about all this swine-flu news (here’s the newest nationwide update) and wondering what’s being done in our area, just in case, we’ll find out more from public-health authorities late tomorrow morning: West Seattle-residing King County Council Chair Dow Constantine has arranged for an 11:30 am briefing during tomorrow morning’s County Council meeting, per a media advisory sent out tonight – read on:

The chair of the Metropolitan King County Council today called for a briefing from officials of Public Health – Seattle & King County on the current situation and latest developments in the international swine flu outbreak.

“With health officials around the world mobilizing to investigate and control this new type of swine influenza, we need to know what can and is being done to monitor for the disease and prepare for any response that may be needed,” said Council Chair Dow Constantine, who contacted Public Health officials on Sunday.

“In this era of global travel and the rapid spread of emerging diseases, we must be vigilant about protecting public health,” said Councilmember Julia Patterson, chair of the King County Board of Health.

The briefing will take place tomorrow morning as part of the regular meeting of the King County Council:

Monday, April 27
11:30 a.m.
Council chambers
10th floor, King County Courthouse
Third and James Streets

Briefing the Council from Public Health – Seattle & King County will be Dr. David Fleming, Director, and Dr. Jeff Duchin, Disease Control Officer for Communicable Disease. They are expected to discuss heightened local monitoring for the disease; planning and coordination with health care, government, private sector and community-based partners; and measures residents can take to protect themselves and their community.

Since it’s during the regular council meeting, you should be able to see it live on cable TV and online.

It appears as though swine flu is a laboratory made illness and it’s very suspicious. Anyone know anymore about it?

If you follow the link in the story, that takes you to the main CDC (federal) website with all the official info. Extra links on left nav bar of the page the link takes you to.

That website says nothing about how Baxter “accidently” mixed those strains to create the illness and then “accidently” transported it. Also, the prediction of the illness in 1996 for 2009 is very suspicious. Wondering what else people may know.

Swine Flu in Mexico: The “New” Bird Flu

New Vaccines Ready to Roll Out

The swine flu outbreak is going to benefit one of the most prolific and successful venture capital firms in the United States: Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers. Share prices have already risen for two of eight public traded companies in the firm’s portfolio of Pandemic and Bio Defense investments. BioCryst, up more than 26 percent, to $2.21 per share, and Novavax, maker of viral vaccines, escalated 75 percent to $1.42 per share on the first announcement of the swine flu outbreak in Mexico.

    Pharma Protected

In 1976, the Federal Insurance Company advised Merck that all liability, indemnity, and defense costs associated with claims arising from the new swine flu vaccine would not be covered by its insurance plan.

This time, there are no worries. Drug companies have completely covered their tracks, and when reports of adverse event and deaths from the new swine flu vaccine start to roll in, they will be smiling all the way to the bank.

Flu shots were added to the Vaccine Injury Compensation Table in 2003, meaning, if anyone is injured, a claim needs to be filed through the Federal Court of Claims and it will be years before it is adjudicated. And that is just the basic layer of protection. All the drug companies have to do is whisper that this may be a “terrorist attack” and they are home free.
