New website for West Seattle’s historic Admiral Theater

And in fact, that’s the URL – thehistoricadmiraltheater.com – lots of info about upcoming special events as well as a link to the page where you’ll find their regular movie offerings.

Great – but seeing how many old/historic theatres in Ballard, Columbia City and the U-District have been converted to 1st run theatres makes me wonder why the Admiral ownerships insists on staying with 2nd run (and 2nd class) status.

On the other hand, it’s probably a terrific investment opportunity for someone to buy it and a make it a 1st run theatre.

DW, if I recall, when the Gartin family bought the Admiral from Cineplex Odeon back in the early ’90’s, there was a stipulation in the sales contract that stated the Admiral could not show first runs.

    .

At the time Cineplex had plans for a six-plex, or some such, in a proposed shopping complex down on Harbor Avenue, I believe at, or near, where Jack Block Park now is.

    .

Cineplex didn’t want the “competition”. Don’t know if that contract still holds, all these years later.

i was talking to my wife while driving home from central cinema about what a nice experience it is to have a beer and some food while at a theatre — first run or not. furthermore, it seems west seattle would be thirsty (pardon the pun) for this kind of experience, what with the number of 20 and 30-somethings flocking to new pubs and generally looking for something fun to do on the weekend. i know this is a completely different business model for the admiral theatre and would be quite a lot of work to implement this kind of thing, but man, it’s nice to dream . . .

    The actual URL is http://www.farawayentertainment.com/admiral.html
    .
The “historicadmiraltheater” domain only redirects to the Admiral page on the corporate site for the Far Away Entertainment Theater Group.
    .
What’s missing for that site is the plan for improvement. I hope there is one – I’d hate to see the theater, already little more than barely functional in audio, seating, sightlines and decor, keep decaying.

No, this actually is an improvement, at least for those of us who had to check the website frequently. The historic-etc. domain now brings up a page with information about the special events coming up at The Admiral, which had NOT been on the faraway-linked site – they’d been on a myspace page that wasn’t particularly easy to use. The movies are still on the other domain, as mentioned in the blurb above, but the rest of it is a big improvement – TR
