West Seattle restaurant update: Circa closed for repairs

Just got a note from Kirsty wondering why the windows at Circa in the Admiral District are papered over, so we ran over to check: Note on the window says the restaurant is closed for “equipment repairs” and planning to reopen March 24.

When I was in there a week ago they said they were going to be closed for a while redoing the entire floor in the kitchen area (which requires pulling out all the equipment obviously). I figure they’re taking the time to also do some other work…makes sense.

    They’ll be back! :)

Circa is getting some much needed repairs done, and some helpful new additions are in the works. Sorry for any inconvenience or steak salad withdrawls. See you all on the 24th!

That is a long time for repairs to be done. Hopefully in that time they will also hire some friendly service people…I have been there twice, once did not stay. Very indifferent and non-caring.

Read city search…I am not the only one.

I keep hearing this complaint with the service but we are there several times a month and, while we have never been fawned over, we have never been disappointed with service and certainly not with the quality of the food. Sure, it gets busy and things can slow down but that is not unexpected.

The 24th can’t come soon enough! We’ll be there with bells on :)

I can vouch for the… “spottiness” of the service. We go there regularly b/c the food is always great and we like having it as our neighborhood joint, but we’ve gotten equal measures of stellar and abysmal service (though to be fair it seems to be more consistently better lately). I’m glad they’re making repairs — I hope they take the opportunity to train their staff too.

A larger waiting (and sitting!) area would be nice plus the staff can be off, so the staff ‘training’ is a good idea.

I’ve been to Circa at least 50 times since it opened 10+ years ago and while the food is always good, the service is all over the board. The biggest problem is that when the place is full, there simply aren’t enough servers to serve everyone and the waits can become ridiculous. On the other hand, if they’re not that busy, the service is great and the waits are reasonable. That’s why whenever I see people pouring out the door, I avoid the place like the plague. But when it’s only half-full (like at 5:30 or 10:00pm), I happily go and have a great experience.

The seating is the worsed. Every time I go I’m stuck being pushed up to my table while the back of my chair is hitting the chair behind me…and I’m a small guy.

Lets hope they find a way to make more space.

I concur with the service comments on this thread. Some server training is a must!

Went there once with family, staff very rude so we didn’t even stay to order after being seated (and a 20 minute wait).
Maybe the down time can be put towards staff training? Wouldn’t try again otherwise…

I have always had great service even during busy times. The wait can be a bit trying, but the staff has gone above and beyond on a couple of occasions and been just fine the rest of the time.

We love the food there and know to try to go on less busy nights/times. I am hoping their repairs include electrical work since when big equipment is running in the kitchen the lights in the whole restaurant dim.

Circa’s focus Is ON THE FOOD, always has been. They concentrate on the quality and freshness of the ingredients followed by exacting and consistent preperation and presentation. I eat there once a week because the food and the people who prepare it are EXCELLENT. As for the waitstaff, the majority of my experiences have been favorable. I am confident that Circa management will take all constructive comments to heart and review/retrain/train staff as required. I look forward to their reopening on March 24th!

    I love, love, love circa

Hi everyone – just letting you know that Circa is open again! Hope to see you there soon!

    Hi All–

Thanks to all our loyal customers and fans who have returned in droves since our re-opening. We missed you, too! Still, I was sincerely disappointed to see so many negative posts about service. We DO care that the waitstaff is friendly, fun, and above all, efficient; we want to do a good job for you, I promise. I’ve been waiting tables at Circa for seven years now, and have been managing for the past two; since then, we’ve had very little turnover in the waitstaff, and have concentrated on giving consistently good service. We’ve grown to know and love so many of our West Seattle regulars and cross-town neighbors–and when so many of you hug and kiss us and rave about your experience on your way out the door, it seems the feeling is mutual. However, if you have specific complaints abour recent events, please let me know–I promise I’ll do my best to address what problems arise. Hope to see you soon!
