West Seattle Weather Watch: Snowy Sunday, early edition

WSB contributing photojournalist Christopher Boffoli has just sent snowy photos from The Junction vicinity, including that one from the “West Seattle Bros.” tree lot on Alaska west of Fauntleroy. We’ll be adding more of his photos – and others that came in from all over West Seattle, in just the past half-hour or so – for this early report (original Saturday night snow coverage here). CLICK AHEAD to see 10 more photos:

Also from Christopher – that’s California/Oregon, and this is the Edmunds hill at 40th (map):

Christopher photographed raccoon tracks too (could they have been left by the “urban super raccoons”?):

While on our walk just after midnight, we happened onto a couple of young snowboarders at California/Thistle (map) – camera-shy but we caught one in the corner, and his board:

One block west of there, this is Northrop, looking southwest toward the top of the Thistle staircase:

Weather note: It’s getting breezier out there. Meantime, Cheryl sent this photo of her “crazy rose” blooming on Genesee Hill:

Two Junction photos from Creighton, who we declare has full rights to say it looked like a “winter wonderland”:

If you don’t recognize it – that’s one of the two Junction Christmas trees (44th/Alaska) lit last weekend at the event we emceed; funny because the snow happened BEFORE the tree lighting last year – if you went in 2007, you’ll recall standing in messy slush, when rain followed the snow. More fun scheduled for The Junction noon-4 pm tomorrow, by the way, and we will be there right at noon to check on conditions. (Probably earlier too, to see how the Farmers Market is going.) Now, from Jesse and Taylor at 36th and Dawson (map), a photo featuring their snowman “with Oreo eyes”:

And this is from Sarah S near 35th/Holden (map):

More photos welcome, especially after the sun comes up, both fun (snow creations?) and practical (road conditions?) – editor@westseattleblog.com – thank you!

I got off work in downtown around 11:30 and got on the viaduct. Roads were mostly wet/wet slush all the way across the bridge and up to 35th.

Beyond that, wet slush along most of Fauntleroy until getting down to the ferry dock.

I continued up Marine View Drive to Arbor Heights and the streets are pretty well covered.

Once the cold air comes in and all this freezes solid it will be a real mess.

That evokes memories of all the years I had to make that drive home after snow coverage at either 4 or 13. One year I slogged across a stretch of The Viaduct where everybody else was just abandoning their cars on the shoulders – I’d been at work 12 hours or something nutty like that and wasn’t going to let anything/anyone stop me from getting home. Glad you made it back OK to post this update! – TR

Tracy! The wind chill has set in at Alki. Our outdoor thermometer reads 27 — and we have gusting winds.

We’re on 49th in between Hudson and Dawson. We have an inch and a half on the front steps. Temp is 29.9 degrees.

On the hill above Alki, we have 27, and a trace of snow. My wind indicator is encrusted with snow, and the deck table has 2 inches of snow.

My paper delivery seems delayed this AM.

Sorry, comment time is over.
