Reader report: Apparent vandalism “bash” in Westwood

We usually hear from Dina Johnson on Highland Park Action Committee issues but today she e-mailed WSB with a report of something entirely unrelated – a bizarre scene of apparent vandalism in Westwood. She writes:

I found this seemingly undisturbed scene at 10 this morning, across the street from Staples in Westwood Village. I hate to think this is someone’s idea of fun on a Saturday night, just a few blocks from my home.

It’s the north parking lot of 8826 25th Ave SW – the driver’s license office – next to a 8826, a 4-story multifamily building under construction.

If you can’t quite place the location, that’s a wide shot showing the building, and some of the smashed items below. Dina continues:

Looks like some idiots broke into the structure and hurled stuff off the upper floors to smash below: 2 microwave ovens, at least 6 computer monitors, and glass bottles. The parking lot is covered with a mess of broken glass and metal debris.

We’ll be watching for the report on this one. Meantime, Dina posted several more photos – including the booze and smokes packaging she found in the debris – on this webpage.

Assuming the “booze” in the photos was consumed by the vandals, they’ve got upper scale tastes. Hood rats aren’t known for their Sake binges.

Reminds me of that scene from Office Space where they take the office fax machine out for a final talking to. “‘PC Load Letter’? What the [duck] does that mean?”

I saw a broken TV over on Trenton, right near there. North side of the street, by the athletic field.

I don’t see any sake but there was definitely some Deschutes Twilight ale consumed . . . assuming it wasn’t just smashed.

    Was David Letterman anywhere nearby?

Those are old CRT monitors. What do you wanna bet it was a ‘david letterman’-esque smashing of old equipment from the roof.

BL – lol…that was my first thought…but…hey, watermelon is much, much more fun :)

The sake’s in one of the photos on the page linked to at the end of the post.

So odd, I was there at 10am, too, and saw the same scene. I figured it was from the condos next door.

Even though I live relatively close to Westwood Village, I quit shopping there, years ago, after my car was stolen out of it’s parking lot. Now I only stop briefly at the post office, to drop off mail inside the building. I can handle some urban weirdness, but the area gives me the creeps. The immediate vicinity around the Westwood Mall strikes me as a “dead zone” where people can do what ever they please.

Never the less, I know that people actually live in that vicinity. How is it possible that the vandals made that much noise, but it was only discovered this morning?

went shopping in qfc about a week ago. women with out shoes went in, then on our way out, a strange man came in carring a golf club. told the security guard about it. so far haven,t had any problems in west wood, but keep eyes open, and check the parking area for any problems

Oh Please, Westwood village and the area around it is not a Dead Zone, almost any type of Mall type of area is going to attract a bad element.

I liked the area better when it was a swamp!

Sorry, comment time is over.
