No West Seattle route for the Breast Cancer 3Day after all

thankssign.jpg

Scenes like that one along Alki SW won’t be repeated along West Seattle streets next month, after all. As Beach Drive Blog first reported, the route for this year’s Seattle-area Breast Cancer 3Day Sept. 12-14 has been revealed, and it’s traveling along the Eastside plus the edges of North Seattle (see the “cheering stations” listed here). Nonetheless, more than a few West Seattleites are among the walkers, so if you get a chance to go cheer them, you’re bound to be giving some neighbors a boost.

I’m a West Seattleite and a 3-Day Walker. It was such a thrill to walk through our neighborhood last year with a few thousand others, thanks so much to the neighbors who came out to cheer us on. It really helps a great deal, makes those miles go by more quickly! And distracts us from noticing how tired our feet really are.

If you want a chance to cheer on or participate in another another great breast cancer cause along Alki, check out Northwest Hope & Healing’s Alki 5K Run & Walk on September 28th. NW Hope & Healing supports women going through breast cancer treatment with funds to help meet short term financial needs — rent, untilities, transportation, meals and more. This grassroots org is based in West Seattle and was founded by a WS mom and breast cancer survivor. Go to NWhopeandhealing.org for more info.

That’s too bad – but I second jb’s note about NWHH’s 5K on September 28. It will be a great event for the whole family and supports a terrific local organization. See you there!

Me and my team “Wizards of Bras” are so bummed we won’t be walking through our hometown this year…but we know West Seattle has our back! I will also give a shout out for the NWHH 5K in September. I received one of their cool baskets when I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer – and they are wonderful! Keep up the great work NWHH – and hope to see lots of people on Alki on Sept. 28th. Also – come out to the cheering stations for the 3 DAY – or closing ceremonies at Memorial Stadium (Seattle Center) – it’s a pretty moving experience!

That is totally awesome you guys. Keep up the good work. I guess there’s always next year, when it comes to the 3-day hitting WS! ;-)

I am another West Seattle resident who has done the 3-Day (including last year’s walk through West Seattle) who is also a breast cancer survivor (three years now – diagnosed at age 35). Komen has put MILLIONS of dollars into research to end the disease, and I applaud all 3-Day walkers and their supporters. Because of their work, I believe that my daughter (currently age 5) will never face double mastectomies, chemo, radiation, hysterectomy, oopharectomy, and more drugs than I could name…all the result of breast cancer treatment. Better things are out there, and we WILL find them.

I also received a healing basket from NWH&H when I was diagnosed, and commend their work. The baskets are great, but even more important is the financial support that they give to women undergoing breast cancer treatment. What would you do if you were too sick to work, couldn’t pay rent, didn’t have help caring for the kids? NWH&H helps women to pay those bills – helping with rent, childcare costs, groceries, and other necessities that become so much more difficult when you’re recovering from chemo, surgery, or the rest.

Thank you West Seattle Blog for supporting Komen and Northwest Hope & Healing by giving them shout-outs, here. And thank you West Seattle for supporting these causes!

Sorry, comment time is over.
