ADDED 10:29 AM: Those are photos from 7138 32nd SW, a sale raising money for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which fights childhood cancer. The family hosting the sale has a child fighting cancer, and is telling their story online here. (Click the address in that sentence to see where it’s at on the Google version of the WSCGSD map; get the printable map here.) ORIGINAL UPDATE: Another round of photos is headed this way – first some anecdotal observations, as the WSB team member who’s not on photo patrol took a quick side trip down the hill to the store – saw lots of folks browsing the sales in the Gatewood/Upper Fauntleroy area – and the sky’s getting lighter all the time! P.S. If you just can’t find a preprinted map (we know our official locations still have some, we checked this morning), we’ve also put a few out in a box by our sandwich board sign near WSB HQ – look for it @ California/Thistle.

my report from the field: I started out parking at work at Findlay & California. walked to C&P Coffee- great yard sale(s) going on there. LOTS of CD’d for a dollar! I picked up a bootleg Tom Waits from his concert in Seattle in ’99 (I was there!) and a few other CD’s. From there I walked up to 42nd, about 1/2 way down the block is another great sale. Linda, if you’re reading this: stop now- I picked up some nice antique collector spoons there. Warning to shoppers- there is not a lot of parking on 42nd, so park far away and walk. Next walked down Findlay- just across California in the alley to the north- sale in the garage. Nice art, some antiques. So far everyone is pricing things well, everyone is happy and friendly! On my way home I passed the sale at Hotwire and it was hoppin’. On the corner of Genessee and California there is a big sign that says “Buy our Junk!”
Heading down to the south end soon to check out some of the sales there. nice job WSB!!

Thanks. We publicized the living daylights out of this thing, including ads in community newspapers all around the greater metro/suburb area, daily Craigslist updates, two rounds of news releases to every media outlet imaginable, etc. etc., etc., so we are glad to see the turnout (including one group that e-mailed us they were coming out from YAKIMA!) … Just for funsies we will be posting the income/outgo accounting on the WSCGSD site afterward, since we are sure a couple people had concerns “hey, it was sponsored by a nonprofit before, but you guys are a business.” I crunched the numbers informally the other day. Promotion and printing cost almost exactly what the registration fees (which we cut from last year) brought in. But what fun to see people out and about, and so glad the rain threat stopped after that 8 am shower …

Sorry, comment time is over.
