West Seattle paving plans: City update

Noting that the Alki Ave paving wasn’t completed by last Friday as per the original city announcement (previous coverage here), we checked with SDOT to ask about both the new schedule and any other near-future West Seattle paving plans. Here’s what SDOT spokesperson Marybeth Turner replied:

The Alki paving was delayed due to the weather and an equipment breakdown last week. The new completion date is March 24, weather permitting.

The plan is to also pave the following two segments this year, depending on how far the available money stretches:

-SW Genesee St from 51st Ave SW to 47th Ave SW

-16th Ave SW from SW Findlay St to SW Brandon St

Looks like my fellow Fauntle-rut Way drivers and I are out of luck for now – but keep reporting individual potholes to 206/684-ROAD, or online by using the form here.

Hope the money holds out. That stretch of 16 is as bad, or worse than, Sylvan Way was. I noticed that it (Sylvan Way) starting to “open up” again.

Fauntleroy doesn’t have any real paving issues. At least none that driving a 4WD won’t solve.

    /sarcasm tag off

    Idiotic city planners.

When oh when will they pave Roxbury?

The further they are from the mayor’s house, the less likely they are to get paved….so fuhgedabout Roxbury.

Frankly I am shocked at how bad the roads are in Seattle, not just West Seattle. We come from a deep freeze climate (Minnesota and South Dakota) and the roads there are way better than here. When we have company that is their first comment, “gee your roads here suck”.

This is off-topic a bit, but I was very happy to see that the train track crossing heading eastbound on Spokane between 1st and 4th was being fixed over the weekend. Next time you go that way you won’t have to slow down to 5 mph to cross now!

Hello m – They may have fixed the crossing over the weekend, but it was closed yesterday afternoon and early this morning as well! Don’t know if it’s open yet or not.

They have roads in South Dakota?? Maybe so, but probably no cars to mess them up.

Maybe we can do a “sit-in” on Fauntleroy until they pave it. Not that I’m volunteering to sit there – I don’t fancy myself being pancake-shaped. That stretch of Fauntleroy from California heading north for the next 1/2 mile or so is HORRIBLE…

Sorry, comment time is over.
