Just out of the inbox from Seattle City Light, a warning about a new scam – somebody who might try to make an appointment to get into your house:

Here’s the full text of the news release just sent by SCL:

Seattle City Light learned late yesterday that a new scam is
underway affecting customers. A salesman by the name of “Donny” was
attempting to make appointments to come to homes to look at ways to
reduce energy consumption. The salesman asserts that he works for a company
by the name of “All Climates” that is supposedly under contract with
Seattle City Light to contact people with higher than normal electric
bills.

The sales pitch is a total fabrication. All Climates, a window
replacement company in Redmond, does not have a salesperson named Donny; and
All Climates is not a contractor for City Light. Seattle City Light
does not contact customers in this fashion. Customers make appointments
with City Light’s Conservation staff for home energy check-ups. Customers
interested in a home energy evaluation should call City Light at (206)
684-3800.

“Scams such as these seem to run in cycles,” says Customer Care
Director Kelly Enright. “City Light does not make unsolicited calls for
services. In this case, a customer notified us immediately, which is
exactly what we want customers to do.”

City Light also would like to remind customers:
• Seattle City Light never asks customers over the telephone for credit
card information to pay their bills. Before a customer provides anyone
with credit information, they should call City Light to verify the
legitimacy of the request.
• Seattle City Light does not call customers on weekends.
• Seattle City Light employees carry identification with the City Light
logo and will always display it when asked.
All City Light customers are advised to take down the name and
telephone number of anyone who calls and represents themselves as a City Light
employee and report the incident to City Light at 684-3000.
