The next phase of work is beginning at the megaproject site across Alaska from Jefferson Square, former home of Hollywood Video etc., future home of QFC and Office Depot as well as other retail and residential units. A few days ago, the city granted a permit for excavation to begin; today, Christopher Boffoli took this photo of the first construction equipment to arrive at the scene:
I live about 200 feet from this site, and I for one am happy to see them starting. The end of the block looks like hell. It will be nice to have the new businesses, but I am not looking forward to the traffic that is generated because of it.
I’m just amazed that QFC would actually still build there, KNOWING that Whole Foods is coming. And….Met Market is close, WS Thriftway, two Safeways, PCC….sheeesh…there’ ain’t THAT many people in WS…
