Jen V., I get the snark post-article, but please keep in mind the reality that very, very few law enforcement officers are engaged in illegal off duty behavior, while SPD in particular has lost three officers this year alone to car accidents caused by felons who should not have been behind the wheel.

“Tuesday also marked the one-year anniversary of the death of rookie Seattle police Officer Joselito Barber, 26, who was killed in car wreck while on duty.”

I don’t “get” the DUI comment at all. Here’s a police officer responding to a call involving a gun and another driver who doesn’t move to the right and instead attempts a left hand turn in front of the officer’s car. A really bad choice on that driver’s part. It is so easy to move to the right when any emergency vehicle approaches. How unfortunate for all involved.

Radley & flowerpetal- I don’t think the Post article was “snarky” at all- on the contrary, it was informative- and shows us that no matter how much they try, law enforcement is not above the law!I obviously feel for the families- ANY families- who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers- be they multi-offenders, like the 3 you mentioned- or if it were an officer of the law drunk behind the wheel.
The reason I even brought it up- it just seemed a little odd that they would shut down Delridge for that many hours unless there was a fatality or some other intense investigation.

There have been many stories in the last few months involving law enforcement officials who have been caught drinking on or off the job. This has been reported in the PI and on local news.

Does anyone know how fast this police officer was driving at the time of the accident? In the past couple of years Chief Kerlikowske has tried several times to get all his officers to think twice about excessively high speed driving. Safety was not first in this crash.

Sorry, comment time is over.
