A garden to plant yourself in

morebarberries.jpgThey put on what is literally one of West Seattle’s most beautiful events of the summer … and just a few weeks after their latest success, they’re already looking toward next summer, with an eye on you and your talents. Click ahead to hear from the people behind the WS Garden Tour:

Dear West Seattle Gardeners,

The West Seattle Garden Tour, a non-profit organization, is looking for new members to join our organization.  2007/2008 will be the 14th anniversary for WSGT and we are looking forward to another exciting tour year!

What we do:

The WS Garden Tour is a registered 501c3 non-profit philanthropic organization. Funds raised by the tour are used to pay for printing our posters, ticketbooks, etc. and other operational costs. All profit then goes to selected horticulturally-related projects/non-profits/gardens for the betterment of our community. Ticket purchases directly positively impact our community–both by bringing another garden tour and by funding important projects in our neighborhoods!

The Garden tour membership committee meets once a month to review the steady, building progress of the tour, which is slated this year for the last week of July, 2008.  The Tour is comprised of 8 gardens, carefully chosen during the months of August-October, to be highlighted for tour visits during the following July. We assemble at an appointed member’s home at 6:30 pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, where we engage in a pot-luck feast, followed by the business of moving the garden tour forward.

We have a great many opportunities for garden enthusiasts, and you certainly don’t need to be a Master Gardener to join!

Here are just a few of the committee opportunities available this year for those new members interested in joining:

•    Garden Selection committee
•    Volunteer committee
•    Sponsorship committee (comprised of 5 subcommittees).
•    Beneficiary committee
•    Public Relations committee
•    Graphic Design committee

How do I get started?

If you are interested in becoming part of WSGT, please call Clay Swidler at: (206) 669-4653 for more information.  The next meeting is on Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 pm.

As a past Chairperson of this organization, I’d like to encourage people who have any interest in gardens at all to give it a try. (No gardening skills needed!) Basically, we get together once a month to eat great food and at the end of a year a garden tour occurs! Really good people and you can take on as much or as little responsibility as you like. Give Clay a call or an email–he’s this year’s President and it promises to be a blast!! Plus, it feels really good at the end to give money to very deserving organizations!

Sorry, comment time is over.
