Bulletin: Stolen West Seattle pugs found safe

pug30.jpgJust talked to Marsha, owner of the stolen pugs, and she confirmed what had been left as a comment on one of our earlier posts a short time ago: The dogs are safe. Here’s what happened: They got a call from the Kent Animal Shelter around 5:30 pm, thanks to the information on the pugs’ microchips. A woman apparently brought the dogs in this morning, said they had been in her yard and she was turning them in, and she left. They are in good health and appear to have pug31.jpgbeen kept indoors since they were stolen back on Monday. Marsha says THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who helped look for them and expressed hopes they would be found safe – she told WSB, “That’s one good thing that came out of this – seeing how caring and supportive everyone was.” She told us about bumping into a young woman who was out in the Fauntleroy Park ravine area this morning, looking for the dogs because she’d read about it here on WSB and wanted to help. (Apparently the pug spotted in the 35th/Barton area earlier today is someone else’s dog.) That’s the second happy ending today, hooray. We asked her to send us a photo of the dogs back safe at home (Pippin, above left, and Bandit at right), so we can share that with you, once she gets a chance.

Terrific news!! Just came back from searching the 35th & Barton to Trenton area to the best WSB news possible!! Pugs and parents should sleep safe and sound tonight.

    So wonderful. :)
I do wish more people cared as much about taken/stolen cats as they do dogs but thank goodness at least those babies are back home.

  • KM August 21, 2008 (7:25 pm)

Oh wow hooray!!! That’s wonderful news!! :-D

    And…KENT??!

Thank goodness for microchips, too! Such a great feeling to know those two cuties are home safe and sound. What a relief.

  • Scot Bastian August 21, 2008 (7:27 pm)

The chip ID is a very good idea. I had my cat chipped at Petco a while back for only about $30. You only have to do it once in the lifetime of the animal.

    Cheers,
    Yacman

HOORAY!!!! I have been absolutely beside myself since first reading about the dognapping, and I’m not sure I can explain how relieved I feel now that I know the pugs are safe and sound and have been reunited with their people. I get very upset whenever I hear about any pet who is lost, stolen, abandoned, or otherwise mistreated, but for some reason this particular story got under my skin in a profound way. I am THRILLED that the pups are back home!

WSB, thank you so much for dedicating time and space to these types of stories (in addition to the other types). I hate that there’s a need for this type of support, but I know there are a lot of West Seattleites who truly and deeply appreciate the missing-pet support and exposure that you provide through the site. Thank you thank you thank you.

  • CP August 21, 2008 (8:10 pm)

Can you imagine the relief! Thank goodness they were found safe. I’m going out and getting my baby boys microchipped tomorrow… I’m a true believer now.

  • Babs August 21, 2008 (8:13 pm)

Wow, I freaked about the blind one and what it could have faced. At least the lowlifes did the right thing in the end. (It could have been a bad ending)
And I agree, thank you WSB for covering this story, simple in nature BUT such a major impact for everyone. (Life is not always about new buildings, or big business news and its grand to read the small and big in our slice of heaven up here)Its really a community blog for all and that includes all the pet parents out there!

  • coffee geek August 21, 2008 (8:15 pm)

Wow, that is awesome. Horrible feeling to lose a pet…glad everything turned out just fine! :)

  • jbar August 21, 2008 (8:29 pm)

YAHOO! Having recently put one of our beloved dogs down, I know what’s it like to lose your best friends! My heart ached for the family…but not anymore!

  • Neighbor August 21, 2008 (8:40 pm)

Great news!! Spreading the word on WSB and the news really does help. Keeps everyone watching – (When you get a minute, please remember to update your lost and found posting.)
I’m still peering at little Boston Terriers, looking for Daisy – what ever happened with her?

  • Gina August 21, 2008 (9:09 pm)

I have been following the story as well and SO happy to hear that the babies are home safely. Thank goodness for the happy ending!!!! Everyone give your four legged buddies an extra squeeze tonight!

  • Pam August 21, 2008 (9:25 pm)

I moved from W. Seattle last fall – but have been worried about Bandit and Pippin since the news hit the WSB. I am so relieved they were found and are in good health.

My thoughts have and will be with you. Celebrate Seattle!

    Yes!

  • mellaw6565 August 21, 2008 (9:41 pm)

Terrific News – It was nice talking with you tonite by phone as I was out searching. Best wishes!

  • charlabob August 21, 2008 (9:49 pm)

This is SUCH great news — I gotta’ suspect it wouldn’t have had a happy ending without the extensive local WSB publicity. Give ’em a big scratch on the head for c, b, and even the katsky’s.

  • aimymichelle August 21, 2008 (11:11 pm)

i’m happy about this i live a few houses up from them, i don’t know them or anything but i makes me happy.

  • bl@ster August 21, 2008 (11:28 pm)

Yayy!!! I was having nightmares about my little baby Havanese being stolen while I’m at work. Glad to hear those doggies are back safe and sound.

  • Hutchbec August 21, 2008 (11:46 pm)

What amazing people live in West Seattle. It made me cry to read about all of you who went to look for the pups. Thank you, WSB, for providing us such an amazing opportunity and forum to care for one another.

  • Kevin Hope August 22, 2008 (7:54 am)

Oh yeah, I have been keeping an eye out, and my pug has been sniffing for them.

  • JenV August 22, 2008 (8:19 am)

I am so relieved to hear this! I left home at 6:30 to go look for them with my BF and did not turn the computer on again. We were just worried sick. I do hope that the pug which was running loose made it home safely too – dogs loose around 35th is never a good thing.

  • Shell Marr August 22, 2008 (8:31 am)

    WWWoohhooo!! :)

  • Cammie August 22, 2008 (9:27 am)

There is certainly no better news that the news I got when I called Marsha last night to see if I could help with posters. I had goose bumps all over. What a relief! MORE GOOD NEWS FOLKS!!! The little one that everyone was looking for yesterday between 35th and Westwood was Coco, a little puggle, who was lost yesterday morning. There was a post made to the Westcrest Off-Leash Group yesterday about her. She has been found as well!! Wahoo!!!
    Great work everyone!

  • Johnny Davies August 22, 2008 (9:45 am)

Hooray! We were out walking and looking last night.. So glad they’re back safely. And I second the question: KENT?? Wow. I’ll raise a glass tonight for this happy ending for these cute little guys!

  • Bayou August 22, 2008 (10:12 am)

    What a relief!

  • Diane August 22, 2008 (11:00 am)

NWCN, ch 2 has been running repeat video all morning of Marsha and her found dogs in their home, if you want to see; seems like NWCN replays stories about once every half hour

  • Katie McA August 22, 2008 (12:10 pm)

Yay! I’m so glad to hear that they are safe. As terrible as it is that anyone would break into someone’s home to steal their stuff, I can tell you that if someone broke in and stole our dog or cat that it would be like having family members kidnapped. I hope people will continue to keep an eye out for the other missing pets that are listed here so we can hear more happy endings :)

  • WSB August 22, 2008 (12:15 pm)

We just had yet another happy reunion – the owner has posted in the forum as well as sending us a note so we could take it off the pets page – Auggie the cat, who’d been missing almost a month, home now after getting trapped in a nearby basement. That’s the third or fourth happy reunion this week.

  • bl@ster August 22, 2008 (9:23 pm)

0mg! Glad to hear Auggie is back. Someone feed that kitten some delicious milk, stat!

Sorry, comment time is over.
