West Seattle Weather Watch: Windy till midnight (or so)
November 5, 2009 at 6:49 pm | In West Seattle news, West Seattle weather | 17 Comments
Hotwire Coffee (WSB sponsor) proprietor Lora Lewis just sent that photo of a tree blown down by her shop in The Junction – she says it “just missed the parked car.” It’s going to be windy until at least midnight, according to the newest forecast – but still breezy after that, for the next few days. 11:40 PM: Serious sleet, and thunder in the distance, just now. The sleet itself came down for a moment or two here with a roar. Click to listen.

I am in the Fauntleroy bowl, looking north. 3 huge blue light flashes in the sky. Looking north to Genesse / Alki. Must be transformers starting to blow.
Get your candles and flashlights ready.

I hope it doesn’t. Am over on Beacon Hill at the neighborhood-planning meeting right now but will be back in WS in an hour or so – hang on, electrical infrastructure, hang on! Although this (e-mailed to us this morn) is worrisome –

We had one hell of a racket up here in N Admiral a few minutes ago. Scared the crap out of me. Hail pounding on the windows, lightning, thunder, sheets of rain….

Twice during the night I have been jilted awake from the intense thunder claps and mean rain/hail rocks pounding on the windows. See – I’m awake now. I’m telling myself, “at least it’s not snow, at least its not snow. Yeah, I can get out of the house, I’m not snowbound.”
Now back to bed until the cycle repeats and I’m reassuring myself yet again.

Slept well last night, looking forward to wave watching at the beach today. Hope this is all falling as snow up in the mountains!

The blue flashes were transformers blowing over on the far side of Magnolia… Saw them from Sunset Ave SW last night, 3 amazing, eery prolonged, blue glowing flashes! Never seen it before, pretty cool.

The Storm near North Admiral last night was AMAZING! Very much like a storm you might see on the east coast or in the mid-west! Lots of Lightning & BIG rolls of thunder! My dogs were freaked out at first but then calmed down. Very cool!
