West Seattle Crime Watch: 2 burglaries, one followup

First, the followup: The Gatewood resident we all know only as “burglarbustindad” will be on TV sometime tonight; KING5 wanted to get in touch with him after reading his story here – we sent him their e-mail address (we never divulge contact or ID info) and he said in this comment that they were over interviewing him earlier today. (Added early Friday – Here’s the story link.) He also sent us the photo at left – he jokes that Cookie is “fired” as his guard dog – 15 years old, by the way. Meantime, the suspected burglar remains jailed. Now, to two burglaries that to our knowledge have NOT yet been solved – both, like “burglarbustindad,” with stolen items including sizable quantities of coins — read on:

From LR near 63rd and Admiral (map):

Our home was broken into yesterday between 10 am and 5:30 pm. The perps were at
least kind enough to close up our house and not let our always indoor cat out. For that I’m very grateful. I just wish that she (I think it was a young woman) had not taken my laptop with all of the contact information for our 40th class reunion that I’ve been collecting for the committee. She was welcome to the Brownies, and the pack of cigarettes and lighter. But some of the not at all valuable rings, watches, etc had great sentimental value. She also took a few hundred dollars in mostly change but must be planning a trip to Canada with the $30 or so in Canadian currency.

The laptop is a silver Dell.

My home was broken into on September 15th between 10 am and 12:30 pm. The robber took around 600 in change, all silver. A digital camera and a black tool box oh and a gray duffel bag to carry the money in. I live in the 3000 block of 44th ave. (map) Robber broke in through bathroom window and exited through back door, locking it behind him. It took police an hour to arrive and told me it would do no good trying to fingerprint anything.

We just had a young AA male soliciting the 4800 block of 51st—I said no thanks through the door before he gave his pitch but neighbors said he was at their house last night asking if they wanted ‘new siding’. On a brick house? Anyway, fyi.

Cookie is just in retirement mode. He says why should I do it I am retired.

How can the police say it’s not worth fingerprinting…why not at least go through the motions so we’ll feel better thinking perhaps they’re out looking for the perps.

    lol@Cookie being “fired”.

Heh, I was thinking along the same lines, Celeste! 15 is 105 in dog years. Cookie should have retired somewhere around 2005! ;)

    .

Anyway, maybe Cookie did do his/her job by telepathically sending the message, “Go check out Coinstar at QFC, dude!” :P

Cookie is so cute. Thanks for sharing. Made me smile even though reading about MORE robberies.
Maybe Cookie needs a “beware of dog” sign so she can enjoy her retirement in peace

Forget the dog, beware of owner

We also have a 15 year old dog that is no longer a good watch dog. We got a newer model a few years back so the older dog could retire.

Good point Michelle! They sell those signs on amazon

I also live on 50th close to Alaska St. I saw the two AA males walking down our street. I was going to my car at the time they were up the block. I decided not to leave till I saw what they were doing. He stopped on the street at my next door neighbors and was writing on a tablet but did not go to the door. My son was inside our house so I texted him to make sure the doors were locked. Right after I sent the text the AA came to my house walked up the drive to our door. Now mind you I am in the car (he saw me get in) but he continued to the door. I kept watching him. He finally came down and went down the street. I decided to go back in the house to see if my son talked to him or not? My son said nobody knocked but there was a flyer for some windows on our front porch. Makes me wonder when the comment by DML said they told her they were selling siding. Glad we are all keeping an eye out.

We have always tried to stop Cookie from barking…maybe that was a bad idea.
These thieves are active now with nice weather and windows open. They will enter through a hidden door or window, look for cash, jewelry, laptops, cameras and in my case stuff the loot in a backpack. Our alarm is now on and I would like to thank my neighbors for looking out for us!

I watched the KING5 interview with burglarbustindad. I know I shouldn’t be, but I am DELIGHTED with the “I put him on the ground” comment in the interview. I’m so sick and tired of people taking from those that work hard. Glad you are safe “dad”!

We wonder why there are so many burglars in West Seattle!??!!! I guess they know West Seattle Police don’t really care to take the time to go after them! Finger Prints, timely response … naw, can’t be bothered!!

    bbd,

So glad to see that everything worked out for you. We all need to watch out for our neighbors and ourselves. I have just gone around my house making sure windows and doors are secure. I even have lock clips on my back gates just to keep them from coming in from the alley. Sorry to our neighbors who now have to walk around to come see us. Hope the guy you caught gets some time in the clicker, and please no field trips like they gave to the Insane Murdurer over in Spokane.

The cops don’t investigate burglaries at all. I got hit while on vacation several years ago. The police showed up about an hour after I called, asked if I had insurance, wrote down some notes and left. Never heard from them again. It’s SOP.

Sorry, comment time is over.
