Update: Shooting outside Westwood Village McDonald’s

(added 12:30 am, video of officers collecting evidence at the shooting scene)
ORIGINAL 11:30 PM REPORT: Police and fire are responding to an “assault with weapons” call in the Westwood Village vicinity. No details yet – monitoring the scanner. We did hear police arriving, saying they found “the victim.” The scanner indicates it was a shooting at the McDonald’s, and police are looking for a “silver Honda” with at least three people inside. We’re heading over to see what we can find out at the scene. 11:43 PM UPDATE: Scanner “be on the lookout” bulletin confirms – it’s a shooting at Westwood Village McDonald’s, “possible suspect vehicle” a silver Accord heading west, four people believed to be inside – described as “black male, Asian male, Hispanic male, Asian female.” No word yet on the victim. 11:54 PM UPDATE: From the scene – The medic unit just left with the shooting victim – IVs could be seen through the window but still no word on age, gender, severity of wounds. (photo by Christopher Boffoli, added later)

We believe we’ve spotted at least one Gang Unit officer at the scene (doesn’t mean it’s gangs for sure but means they’re looking into it – ironic, we were at the gang-violence forum downtown earlier tonight, have not yet written the story). TV crews are on site too. (photo of Gang Unit officer by Christopher Boffoli, added 1:02 am)

12:19 AM UPDATE: From Seattle Police spokesperson Officer Renee Witt: The victim is an adult male shot in the leg, taken to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries”; the suspect vehicle is now described as a “gray Honda” with four suspects, and she confirms the Gang Unit is among those on the scene investigating. Photos from the scene shortly.

1:04 AM UPDATE: Adding photos by WSB photojournalist Christopher Boffoli. This one shows the shell casing police found at the scene (Christopher says nearby residents reported hearing one shot):

4:35 AM NOTE: No word of any arrests so far; we will check again with police later in the morning.

Explains the SPD car that just went lights and sirens by my house on Thistle at the speed of light!

  • Roguedelux June 2, 2009 (11:36 pm)

Sounds like over 10 poice vehicles arriving from north pat of 35th onto Barton. Noisy night. Hope there is no ‘victim’.

  • WSB June 2, 2009 (11:40 pm)

Patrick’s heading over to see what he can find out. P.S. to “thanks,” we are along Thistle too and that was the first tip. Atop the hill here is a pretty good location for hearing sirens from miles around … TR

Ye gads! We wondered what all the sirens were about. It seemed like they were nonstop today. Geez, that’s within easy walking distance of our house… hope the victim is ok.

dang it sounded like a warzone i’m up in arbor heights so i went here to look for something then grabbed my scanner. but geez scary stuff. i think i heard on there that the victim was shot in the left thigh but i’m not sure if thats the same thing.

  • thanks June 2, 2009 (11:51 pm)

I always worry about them flying down Thistle towards 35th at those speeds – they must catch air. Thanks for quick work.

I live across the street from Westwood. I had the TV up a bit too loud to hear clearly, but I did hear a commotion shortly after my husband left for the QFC. He missed it by minutes. I’m just a little freaked out by the proximity right now, to be honest.

I live on 35th @ Roxbury, and was just pulling into my driveway when the sirens started, so I drove down to see what was going on.. I saw them put the victim on a stretcher and into an ambulance, but then it just sat there.. I couldn’t tell if they were working on the person very much??

They pulled over a silver truck at 35th and morgan.

  • WSB June 3, 2009 (12:10 am)

    just now?

  • WesCAddle June 3, 2009 (12:18 am)

The scanner said the silver truck was a possible DWI…unrelated to above story.

  • Timothy Clemans June 3, 2009 (12:23 am)

    Great live reporting! Awesome job!

  • M. June 3, 2009 (12:29 am)

ooh thanks good to know it wasnt related.

  • WSB June 3, 2009 (12:30 am)

Patrick went by on his way back from W-Village anyway … nothing at 35th/Morgan now. We appreciate the added scanner info because our scanner has so many channels programmed in – including KCSO and KC Fire as well as Metro, Public Works – that sometimes we miss an important fragment because something else stopped the “scanning.”

    F*cking scumbags.

  • samson June 3, 2009 (7:03 am)

my goodness, what is going on – gangs need to get out of here – do they know how to relax and make it peace? too much freedome!! where are their parents? what happens with the curfew? dont they have homework to finish up? parents should take the cars away and being irresponsible for kids to go out and have fun and the result is this!

grow up and move on and forget the problems….

samson – you make me laugh. Peace, freedom, parents, curfew, homework. Quite the chuckle.

man! i’m just a block and a half away from mcdonald’s, too close for comfort. but i have to say it isn’t such a surprise — the activity at roxhill park keeps getting more “exciting.” i keep calling SPD to report incidents (public drinking, HUGE groups of people hanging out and screwing around at 2am, even someone shooting heroin two weeks ago) but haven’t gotten much of a response (generally no officers show up after i call). if you’re in the westwood area i encourage you to call 911 when things start to getting crazy or loud in WWV or at roxhill.

  • bridge to somewhere June 3, 2009 (2:17 pm)

p.s. if anyone else in WW would like to meet up, i’d be happy to.

  • Eric June 3, 2009 (6:13 pm)

I would second what bridge says. If you let “exciting” people take over a park, pretty soon the area goes to pot. There USED to be a nice park near my parent’s house. The immediate area near the park is now sketchy to say the least. Lowlifes in the park are like a cancer, if you don’t get it out it just spreads.

Keep calling the cops because they log all the calls. If it is only one person calling, they think that they are crazy and ignore them. But if enough different neighbors call, they eventually take it seriously. Remember, it is your neighborhood. And think about how and where the heroin junkie is going to get his money for his next fix.
