West Seattle Crime Watch: Classic rainbow bike stolen by grab-and-go thief

Be on the lookout for that stolen bike – maybe tossed aside somewhere by now:

July 4th, 11:55 pm. Corner of alley at 59th & Stevens. Devastating theft of 1-of-a-kind 1977 Free Spirit bike. Distinct rainbow colors and banana seat. Male, early 20s, snatched it and took off toward beach. Owner heartbroken, offering reward.

Looking to solve many stolen bike mysteries? Here’s how: let’s work with the Seattle Police bike unit. Send your pics of stolen bikes to the patrol. Then when the bike patrol is out and say riding between West Seattle and Downtown they will pass dozens of camps with many many bikes. I am not saying they are all stolen. They can just do a stop and chat with a visual scan for the stolen bikes.

    Is this worth a trial?

Heck I’d even volunteer to do a ride along with our local officers.

    What do you think Tracy?

What a shame! That’s a beautiful bike. I hope the owner gets it back soon.

Check on Craig’s List, too. Often, bikes will pop up there trying to be sold for quick cash.

Seattle Bike Blog has a tool for bicycle tracking. I’m not sure how successful it is because it is participation dependent but it’s worth looking into:

Sorry for the loss of your very cool bike, I hope you get it back somehow. It may show up on Craigslist. It’s hard to enjoy cool stuff like this anymore b/c there are too many scumbags lurking around, waiting to rip you off!

Sorry, comment time is over.
