Update: Car flips in High Point, 1 person to hospital

(WSB photos by Patrick Sand)
FIRST REPORT, 4:06 AM: Seattle Fire crews have just started arriving at Sylvan Way/SW Holly (map) after a “heavy rescue” dispatch. The first unit on the scene, Engine 11, reported via radio that there’s a rolled-over car at the scene. Three people were reported to have gotten out of the vehicle. More to come.

4:29 AM: Our crew at the scene says this is just east of Forest Lawn Cemetery (WSB sponsor), near Sylvan Ridge Townhomes. The vehicle was believed to have been westbound. One person has been taken to the hospital by private ambulance. A tow truck is already on scene so while Sylvan is blocked now, probably won’t be closed much longer.

4:50 AM: Just added photos. The car took out a streetlight pole; police were notifying SDOT.

1:25 PM: One bit of followup information – police tell us there were actually two people in the car, not three, both in their 20s. Though only one went to the hospital, both reported minor injuries.

The street is still blocked to traffic from both directions. Avoid.

I’ve counted 11 rollovers in West Seattle over the last 12 months, all reported here at westseattleblog.com

Do people rollover this much in other neighborhoods, or is there some special juju here under our feet.

Maybe other neighborhoods don’t have detailed reporting like West Seattle via this blog.

If rollover information is recorded somewhere centrally, Seattle PD or somewhere else perhaps, then that data would be more useful than sampling just whats in WSB.

Not all rollovers are dispatched as “heavy rescues.” But if you search SFD and SPD reports, available online in myriad ways, you’ll certainly find “heavy rescue” calls in other neighborhoods. By the way, you’ll find a lot of other types of news covered here more than in other neighborhoods, too. WSB just happens to cover a LOT of news.

@Mack, Ever since discovering WSB many years ago I’ve been shocked by how many roll overs there are. It seems to me like its pretty hard to roll a car while operating it anywhere near the speed limit. I guess that’s what happens when you have a lot of people living in a small area.

I did see a banana peel on the road there the other day. I’m sure that’s what caused the “accident”. Just driving along minding their own business … and whoops!

    I. Ponder, after careful consideration I have decided, err, determined that you have the only sound theory here. Carry on.

I ride my bike every day and I saw the banana peel too, and have avoided it every time. Roll over’s on bicycles are almost as bad, save the “heavy rescue”.

Sorry, comment time is over.
