2 Crime Watch followups: Sled returned; stolen car found

While we hope for Just got good news in the missing/stolen dog case, and we have MORE good news tonight in West Seattle Crime Watch followups: Two thefts reported here last month are resolved – and one turned out not to have been a theft at all! One involved a sled, one involved a car, and we have details on both, ahead:

First, the sled:

Lynda shares that photo of the unique sled that is now back in her family’s possession, three weeks after she reported it stolen from outside A Terrible Beauty in The Junction. (Here’s our original story.) A couple days ago, we heard from Kitty, who said she believed she had Lynda’s sled, and asked us to forward her contact info to Lynda, who e-mailed us today:

According to Kitty, they were at ATB the same evening as us. When she and her family were leaving, their friends offered-up their sled, as Kitty’s 3 year-old was very tired and wouldn’t be able to make the trek home on foot. Kitty just grabbed the only sled that was out front, which just happened to be ours. Two weeks went by and when Kitty finally got together with their friend to return the sled, a good laugh was had by everyone! This was not their sled, rather their sled was old, orange and plastic! Kitty immediately went to the source that she relies upon, West Seattle Blog – she typed ‘sled’ into the search engine and the article that you posted popped right up. … Our faith in the local community has been restored, we couldn’t be happier!

I’ve attached a picture of the sled, as it really is a beautiful, priceless treasure.

Thank you, thank you , thank you!

Second, the car. 11 nights ago, Ryan reported his ’97 Impreza stolen from 41st/College in the Admiral District. Today, Caroline sent a note saying his car was parked outside her home in the 6300 block of 50th SW. Not to say this is the route thieves traveled, but this map will show you the two points are just 3 miles apart – police often point out that stolen cars can wind up not going very far:

We conveyed the message to Ryan, plus Caroline was contacting police. Ryan says the tank was empty and his stereo equipment was gone, but the car looked OK otherwise.

This destination is similar to the location of some recent thefts. I live a few blocks east on Graham. My car was stolen a couple years back and I found it two days later only a few blocks away. I’m getting the suspicion that the thief or thieves live in this neighborhood and are into stealing for joy rides or transportation.

Good news that the sled is back in its home, and the car is found. Certainly shows how useful WSB is!

Thank you Caroline for contacting the WS blog and the police! She was very helpful indeed, unlike the two other individuals that left notes I found in the car complaining about “no vashon parking” and “garbage man can’t get in.” With the notes from bothered citizens found inside the car, we know the car was moved at least once. Why I can’t say. Wouldn’t thieves leave it to be towed?

Anyway, Im thankful more wasn’t taken. They left a nice racquet and dress shoes. Apparently the subwoofer, amp, and head unit were the only thing of importance to them. Oh, and they left a coiled air hose that was used to siphon the gas.
