Ever HEARD an eagle? Alki Point sounds and sights

March 31, 2009 at 2:58 pm | In Seen around town, West Seattle video, Wildlife | 10 Comments

We’ve seen eagles more than a few times in our 18 years of living in West Seattle, but can’t quite recall HEARING them – so thanks to Gary Jones for getting close enough to capture audio as well as video from Alki Point this morning, and sharing the results. At one point, he spotted four eagles in the same tree, and got still photos too:

Thanks again to Gary for sharing the video and photos – if you capture wildlife, breaking news, memorable scenes, editor@westseattleblog.com – any time!

  1. Damn those crows! I don’t know why those powerful eagles just don’t take them out with one well-placed swoop of a razor-sharp talon.

  3. Gary, thanks for posting the video; it’s very cool and to Christopher’s point, so much better than the crow chatter (or the irritating noise they make running across my roof).

  4. To Christopherboffoli… I saw it happen once on San Juan Island! A pair of Baldies flew over my house in Arbor Heights last evening. They too were being harassed by crows. The eagles were just too cool to care!

  5. That is just awesome – they sound a bit like seagulls, don’t they? Thanks for sharing!

  9. In flight the rule is almost always that the smaller bird is more agile and is able to turn more quickly. That keeps the crows safe when they fly at the eagles – to a degree. If the eagle catches the crow getting complacent its one dead crow…

  10. Wow – the eagles sound so … sweet! Not like the mighty, noble, and grand birds that they are. Thanks for the fantastic video. But let’s face it, crows are among the most clever and resourceful of all animals.
