Reader Recommendation Request: On the fence
November 28, 2007 at 11:17 am | In Reader recommendations | 17 CommentsFrom David:
I am about to drop a considerable amount of money on a new fence and have been unimpressed by the big names that have come by so far to provide quotes. Some have
even taken 2 months to just get us an estimate ~! Can you please inquire with the community on recommendations for fence contractors/companies in the area that perform fast, reliable work?
As always, please respond by adding a comment; all WSB Reader Recommendation Requests are archived here.

- @MitchSpute nope. I remember him too. This is Det. Monty Moss. Permalink
- @typewriteralley He went to the play while we covered the Ballard meeting about SPD surveillance cameras. Off-peninsula multitasking. Permalink
- @typewriteralley I know! We have been there many times; got a young actor in the family. Just picked him up there (audience mbr tonight) Permalink
- RT @reifman: @westseattleblog @SeattlePD should redo this event on a non-holiday weekday ... Permalink
- and it's a wrap. Det. Moss says he doesn't think there'll be more "big events" like this one. Permalink

We just had a new fence installed this summer. We used Home Depot. They were great. On time, detailed oriented, polite. It was a great experience.

We used a local craftsman, James Ritchie 206.937.5972, a couple of years ago. He does clean, good looking, reasonable ($) work. (As a matter of fact, our house is the one for sale, at right, in the margin!) I understand he is doing fencing full time now. He has done some of the fencing for neighbors on both sides of our house.

West Seattle Fence – he is local – not cheap (but he actually sinks the posts the right way vs. the they will rot in 10 years way – I think that’s worth it).
His family is in WS, and the phone is his home phone. I really liked how professional he was and several friends have been happy with his work.
He takes great pride in his work and it shows.

West Seattle Fence does great work but they were one of the more expensive vendors we received a quote from. However… you get what you pay for with them.

James at West Seattle Fence is a great find. He is a true craftman and uses only good material. Once you’ve seen his work, you can recognize it immediately.

Again with the West Seattle Fence recommendation. Great guy, true artisan and professional.

Alki Fence does great work. Posts are set in cement, or if you want to spend more they can set them in braces mounted in cement. They have many choices to select from. They will get the job done in just a few days.

I’ve used Towne and Country Fence twice and was not disappointed either time. Their office is in Lynnwood but they do work all over the place. Ask for George!

I totally agree with the recommendations for West Seattle Fence. They were fantastic and the fence they built is awesome. If you are interested in seeing their work you can email me and I will give you my address. lisadawny@yahoo.com.

I had my fence installed by James Ritchie of West Seattle Fence. My fence was the only one on my block without a lean, or missing boards after that big windstorm last year.
Comment by Gina — 2:01 pm November 28, 2007 #
I second the recommendation for Alki Fence. Very reasonable prices and did a good job quickly.
Comment by Matt — 3:05 pm November 28, 2007 #
I would like to second the Alki Fence recommendation. I used them this past spring and they were great.
Comment by Jennie — 3:30 pm November 28, 2007 #
West Seattle Fence all the way. James is a great guy and did a great job on our fence.
Comment by Wes — 3:55 pm November 28, 2007 #
Any of these folks do fence repair, too?
Comment by OP — 3:56 pm November 28, 2007 #
Does West Seattle Fence have a website by chance?

We recently had Alpine fence do some work. I would have loved to have West Seattle Fence come out, but they didn’t reply to two phone calls. Alpine was very quick and reasonable. I’d do business with them again.
