What’s in store
July 29, 2006 at 10:36 am | In West Seattle news | 5 CommentsThis morning’s P-I sort of jumps into the “will we get a Trader Joe’s or won’t we” question … with a few slightly odd side trips, including grousing about what kind of materials will be used to build the Admiral project rumored to be TJ’s potential home. The other oddity about the P-I story is its inference that QFC is not already in West Seattle; the Westwood store’s been open for more than a decade.

I have heard a bunch of different things about Trader Joes…Maybe up in Admiral, Maybe in the new Whole foods complex. Like the guy from MM says in the article, believe it when the permits are done.

I wrote a letter to Trader Joe’s awhile back and encouraged them to locate a little further from that rumored location across the steet from Metropolitan Market. The area would just be too saturated with markets. (Even though I’d sure love to have a Trader Joe’s somewhere in West Seattle.) I think some place like “City People’s Mercantile” (defunct in Capitol Hill and Fremont, but doing well in NE Seattle) would be perfect to fill out the Admiral shopping district: hardware store; gifts; clothes, toys; etc. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/layoff.asp?id=355. But, alas it is not up to me!

I spoke to a manager at The Met and he said Trader Joe’s was a done deal! We’ll see!

do you have any idea where the new QFC is going to be located in West Seattle? I actually heard a rumor going around today that they want to take over the Met. Market, and redo it and build condos above…that ca’t possibly be true, can it?
Comment by Jan S. — 7:20 pm August 1, 2006 #
supposedly the QFC will be in the building that’s going to go up just east of the empty lot at 42nd and Alaska – where there are boarded-up buildings now, with music and movie posters plastered all over them. the condo thing near Metro Market is supposed to be the project that is slated for the car wash/cleaners/ex-Admiral Benbow block just west of MM … I don’t think they’d build over MM, which is still relatively new. **updating one night later … WS Blogger Spouse reminds me, it’s the Metropolitan Market on QUEEN ANNE which is proposed for a takeover and condo-topping**
