Zip code 98126 is oddly long and stringy. Anyone know the history behind the decision to make it that way? Just curious.

I wondered about that also. Houses that are only a few blocks from post office on California Avenue have the 98126 zip code and I think that mail is processed through the Westwood Village post office. Seems odd.

    It’s a conspiracy.

Mail routing maybe? Mailman only has to drive up and down 35h and it’s cross streets and not negotiate the hills on either side?

The zip codes are a mystery to me. I live in Arbor Heights in zip 98146. Because I share a zipcode with Burien and Highline, I get swamped with official mail and advertising that has nothing whatever to do with where I live or vote. I’ve tried asking some of the senders to edit their mail lists to be less wasteful, but they got downright snotty.

If you don’t live in 98116 (the good part of West Seattle) or 98039 (Medina) you are essentially nobody. And nobody cares if you whine about living in the bad zips.
