There will be West Seattle-specific candidate forums. We reported last weekend that the Southwest and Delridge Neighborhoods District Councils are organizing one for October; the 34th District Democrats apparently may have another round of endorsements to make, and they have candidates speaking at almost every meeting. The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce sponsored a candidates’ forum in July and we will be asking if they are trying to organize one for the general election. So you can count on multiple chances to see the candidates in person, and you can count on getting plenty of advance notice here.

Huindekmi: let’s make it 3 for 3. The viaduct is a state road and thus under the control of the Governor, not the Mayor of Seattle. (Though the Mayor has control over building permits) So we have a candidate running on a platform that the actual job doesn’t cover. Great!

Not one more dollar to lawyers over the viaduct. Just get the dang thing built!

I will not vote for McGinn purely based on his tunnel stance. My main concern is that the anti-tunnel people will vote for him thinking that since he’s anti-tunnel we may end up with a plan to retro-fit or rebuild the viaduct.

People need to understand that the viaduct will never be rebuilt or retro-fitted. That option is the only option that was dead from the very beginning. Even if the majority of the voters wanted that option (which they don’t), it’s not going to happen because it’s just plain wrong.

There are only two viable options – a deep-bore tunnel or a surface street. A vote for McGinn means you support the surface street option – which would be tragic for West Seattle, no matter what mass-transit and bikers would have you believe (and I’m pro mass-transit and bikers).

I am surprised that it hasn’t been picked up by local media outlets, but I will be throwing my hat in the ring officially tomorrow night.

lizru, that’s very true…and he has the power to not issue the permits…seems wrong to me. What the hell is he thinking?

villagegreen, I’m afraid I feel the same way…once more it’s voting for the lesser of 2 evils…damn…where are all the good people?

and yes, I know he was a surface option- transit proponent for the viaduct replacement too.

but, at least he has the experience and would have (maybe) realized that ship had sailed.

TheHouse – Given who’s left in the running I think I’ll vote for you.
