miwsParticipantI kinda think I know which area you’re talking about, Todd.
I’m always glad to see speed enforcement, especially around the schools. But, I’m even more glad to see it in the area you suggest.
A few weeks ago, I walked westbound, along the south side of Roxbury from the White Center business district for the first time in *years*.
I’d forgotten how unnerving it actually is to walk along that very narrow sidewalk in that area, going down the hill. Delivery type trucks, flying up the hill with their right hand mirrors sticking out were a bit intimidating.
At one point along there, I passed another pedestrian that was going the opposite direction. I’ll usually, in that type of situation, just move a little closer to the the curb, if feasible, and scrunch past them, walking a bit sideways if neccesary. In this case though, I stood off to the side a bit, and let them past.

Heinz57MomMemberAs a parent I’m all for enforcing speed zones around schools. However, I think they need to enforce them around all schools NOT just private schools.

BonnieParticipantI think they enforce them in all school zones and don’t pick out only private schools.

MargLMemberThey -regularly- enforce the speed in the school zone on 35th for Arbor Heights Elementary. We can hear the ‘vrrrrooooom’ of the motorcycle cop and the short ‘whoop’ of his siren as he pulls over speeders on school mornings. :-)

cclarueMemberI can say they do a great job of patroling 9th ave sw near Highland Park Elementary. When I lived there I walked my kids to school and watched many tickets issued, and being a parent in the neighboorhood I was pleased with the amount of police presence near our public school.
