DaveyTatroParticipantHello Neighbors,
Before I moved to West Seattle in 2004, I visited the Alaska Junction a few times. I remember Dog Meats store, somewhere near The Poggie[?] Was this a real place? How long was it in business and what did it sell? I can find no information or images of the place on Google. Can someone fill in the blanks and even send an image of the place?
Thanks!
– Dave

miwsParticipantHi Dave, yes, there was a Dogmeats/Turnabout Records in the Junction next to the north to Poggies.
It was owned by a great guy, also named Dave, who sadly succumbed to cancer several year ago.
The space the store was in became part of ArtsWest Playhouse, along with the former Meredith’s Five and Dime, next door to the north, of Dogmeats.

dobroParticipantYes, they sold CDs, vinyl, motorcycle gear, rolling papers and bongs,t-shirts and clothing, all jumbled up in piles with their dogs roaming thru the store. It was a cool place and Dave was a sweet guy.

CaitParticipantIt was absolutely real! :)
Dave’s daughter is my best friend and I have many fond memories of being in his store. I will always remember that he knew I was a huge Beatles fan (still am) and gave me all the spare Anthology posters he had from the promotion of the albums.
Dave was also a Seafair Pirate who went by the name “Dogmeat”, not sure what came first though, the pirate name or the store name…
The thought of “Was ____ real?” is constantly happening to me! The last time I had this thought it was Groucho’s. :)

CaitParticipantDobro – there were usually kids under the counter too, if you didn’t know. LOL.
