PeachesParticipantEvery year, a friend and I create holiday swags out of invasive plant species for use in my office (I work for a conservation organization, so the swags provide a little holiday irony!). Species include Scot’s broom, English ivy, gorse (only a little, ’cause it really hurts to work with it), and holly with berries. We have plenty of sources of broom, ivy and gorse, but our holly supply is drying up. Anyone out there with a tree full of holly berries who would be willing to let me come hack off some branches? Think of the benefits of taking those berries out of production (holly spreads a lot via ‘bird deposit’ of berries).

KatherineLParticipantPeaches, I’ve been looking for someone like you. I have a lot of pretty holly going to seed in my back yard. PM me or email me at kld963@gmail.com. I’d love to give you all you can carry.

MargLMemberSame here – we have 3 holly trees if anyone wants to use holly to decorate this season they’re welcome to come lop some branches. We have tons of ivy, too. I’m in the Arbor Heights area – PM if interested.

KenParticipantI plan to take out the whole tree. I will drag it to the ally for ya if you want it.

B-squaredParticipantLincoln Park is still fairly well stocked with holly, and as it is an invasive species, it is routinely removed, or cut down and poisoned. I can’t imagine anyone would have a problem with taking some of it. or all of it.

flowerpetalMemberCutting any plants on park property is not permitted and could be cause for a fine. There does seem to be plenty of holly in Lincoln Park and the temptation is there, isn’t it? However, these plants and others provide unseen benefits such as runoff buffering, slope stabilization and habitat for wildlife.
I’m glad there are other generous offers here to choose from.
