beachdrivegirlParticipantPBS is conducting a poll on whether or not folks feel that Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP (or god forbid, PRES) and the right is organizing a YES vote-in.
http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html
I voted and was startled by the statistics that 52% of individuals do find her qualified… they must not watch the same intervies i do.

GenHillOneParticipantIMO, this is not a worthy poll. It allows for multiple votes from any given email address and shows signs of using bots. I’m disappointed that PBS would use such a poor tool. Instead of voting again (I did once/twice to see that it wasn’t monitored), I sent an email to PBS re: the farce.

JenVMemberTypical right wing tactic.

beachdrivegirlParticipantthanks GHO, I will actually send an email as well. Who knows if they get enough emails maybe they will make the necessary corrections.

inactiveMemberGHO –
Maybe you could post the PBS email address? I appreciate how you and other WSB forum folks take the initiative in voicing your opinions.
If it is the case that this poll is so lame, PBS is sliding down that same slope as McCain, in my eyes. Very disappointing.

GenHillOneParticipantfrom pbs.org site:
“Have a comment about the journalistic integrity of PBS on-air or online content?
Write the PBS Ombudsman, Michael Getler, who serves as an independent internal critic within PBS seeking to ensure that PBS upholds its own standards of editorial integrity.”
there are email links at the top right of that page

walfredoMemberIt is a silly poll… Online polls that allow multiple votes.
The next thing you know they are going to change the entire rules and formatting of the vice presidential debate to cover up her complete lack of anything to say outside of scripted talking points- Wait, what is this?
“From the NYT:
At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.
McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.”
Are you fuc*ing kidding me? We are now rigging the debate formats to compensate for a know-nothing, mendacious Manchurian candidate drilled in meaningless talking points? And the Obama team agreed to this? And so did the press?”
September 23, 2008 at 1:03 am #640532
JoBParticipantNow now Walfredo…
the republicans have a right to be concerned about what sarah will say. her delusions of grandeur are showing and that won’t do John McCain any good.
What he thought he got was a woman who talked the talk but didn’t mean it… he is finding out she actually says what she means… even if she hasn’t ever actually thought about what she means…
she just wants to show “them:….
poor john is afraid he is them… she wants to do more than just inquire after his health every morning.
that’s the trouble with women you know.. you just can’t keep them in their place:)
I would pity John.. but hey, that’s what rash decisions get you.

ariettaParticipantI got multiple emails about this from friends today. Between that, the one about donating money to PP in her name, and others, I had had enough of this insistence on keeping this floozey in the spotlight. Here was the response I sent, with some stuff removed regarding how the Dems will guarantee our own loss if we keep sending ourselves into a tizzy at every right-wing announcement:
===
As disgusted as I am with the idea of her in general, never mind the idea of her in any position of power, emails like [the pbs poll] are just prolonging the media frenzy that suggests that she is legit. These polls mean absolutely nothing, and I know that you know this. When some right-winger asks me to jump, why should my response be, “Ok, your majesty, how high?” If we don’t engage in these stupid things, we don’t acknowledge that they (or she) are even worth the effort of a mouse click.
[Dems digging their own grave info was here]
Choosing not to participate in these ploys has to start somewhere. I’m here to suggest that maybe instead of focusing on the right, where you’ll always (always, as in every single time) be fighting a losing battle, how about turning that much-needed time and attention back to our own inspiring candidates.
[your friend, arietta]

i gave to planned parenthood because i would have anyway…

ZenguyParticipantHere is the reply I got from PBS:
Thank you for writing to PBS regarding the Web poll that asks, “Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States?” The poll is part of the companion site for NOW, one of PBS’ award-winning public affairs program. The series creates a poll each week that is based on the news to solicit opinions from our Web visitors about current issues. This particular question appeared the week of the Republican National Convention, when Sarah Palin was nominated, and it was designed to reflect a question that many were asking at that time. It is no longer on the Web site home page. The weekly online poll reflects the interest and enthusiasm visitors to pbs.org feel about a particular topic; it is not a scientific measurement of opinion. Due to massive accessing of the poll that was compromising the overall performance of pbs.org, a “cookie” system has been implemented on the Palin question. Therefore, as of September 23rd, a user can only vote once, on one computer. The current poll, also taken from the most recent headlines, is “Who [Senator McCain or Senator Obama] do you trust more to fix the nation’s economic mess.” Visitors can cast their vote in this poll at http://www.pbs.org/now/. We appreciate your interest in PBS and our online content. Sincerely,MaryPBS Viewer Services

GenHillOneParticipanta) nice job, Zenguy; nice they made the change, though the damage was probably already done – I guess we should all go vote again
b) I did not get a response and I’m totally offended – they can have their Rick Steves books back! ;)

GenHillOneParticipantHey Zenguy, would you mind posting your response in the comments here?
or give me permission to copy it if you really don’t want to register? You can do it in today’s post (“Alaskans for Truth”); there are still many mentions of the poll, they come up daily, and I’ve never seen anyone post a response from PBS. I think a lot of people would be interested.
