yeah, well, that’s another problem altogether. if i can’t afford to hire an attorney to read a contract for me, i learn some contract law myself, and i read the document carefully before signing.

most americans aren’t that sophisticated, and their eyes glaze over when you dangle shiny objects in front of them. they usually trust bakers, realtors, and lawyers unflinchingly and without question. they assume that they have rights, and that merely signing a contract can’t or won’t negate those rights.

    they’re usually wrong.

now, throw in a realtor who is eager for commission and a banker who is eager to sell a mortgage, and suddenly you have a less-than-sophisticated borrower being pressured into a sale by a couple of people who desperately want that sale to happen, despite the borrowers’ credit.

“oh, that? that’s nothing. standard legaleze. sign here and we’ll get you those keys.”

This is a capitalist economy…. same thing for that ride around the block in a new car. So, we use BIG Government to babysit every idiot who can legally sign a contract?

Note ALL the government and union workers who think this is all just fine and dandy…more of the same… in fact a little more on my plate please. We are now 43rd in the nation in cost of doing business, rank 37th in cost of living… well tl all the bleeding heart liberals… get ready… Detroit is our new role model…

don’t ya just love that Seattle Public Utility announced 25 per cent rate hike? We conserve too much… so our rates have to be increased. It never ends…. Now where will all that UW state support come from when small business and business(persons) head for a state where a decent ROI can be achieved? Now watch state revenues plunge… whoever is left….. here comes income tax…. on top of SALES tax…

messr redblack…. tell me with a straight face Wa can sustain this trend. we don’t even have the consolation that we can educate our kids at a public university… The entire GDP per capita for this state is 45,881…. we pay too much to carry WA state governments and the UW et al.

“BIG” goverment babysitting idiots who can legally sign contracts? If those American citizens you label idiots don’t understand, not your problem? That’s just the way Capitalism works? Really? Believers of that philosophy are no better than the financial moguls who brought us this recession and that form of Capitalism is a wholly unethical, immoral system of “buyer beware.” That particular form of Capitalism apparently thinks it’s OK to trick people if they are too weak or “stupid” to be able to read, understand or identify any convoluted contract clauses that allow sellers to take advantage. Shame on us if we buy into the notion that taking advantage of the weak is just the way it is… nothing we can do about it. Too bad… so sorry… should have paid more attention to the fine print… buyer beware.

Yeah, we know what was said in the advertising, but the guy pitching the sale is just an actor after all… says he loves the product because he’s paid to do that… basically he’s lying for money to say he believes something that he really doesn’t believe, so people will buy what they don’t need or likely can’t afford. And if you are too weak or “stupid” to get it, well then we get to take advantage of you and you deserve your misfortune.

Gosh K, sounds like you made darned good money in the State of Washington thoughout the years and now have your 529 account set up for your kids’ education so maybe you should be giving thanks for all the luck and prosperity Washington has afforded you. When the water main on your street breaks and undermines the foundation of your house (or houses), fix it yourself if you don’t want to pay to keep the infrastructure sound. And then I’ll help you pack your u-haul if you’d like.

“So, we use BIG Government to babysit every idiot who can legally sign a contract?”

why not, we use BIG government to tell people what marriage is, how women are to control their bodies, and love to go on nation building sprees.

Who’s the stupid one… the individual who signs a loan they can’t afford which results in loss of their home… or corps who hand out hundreds and thousands of these liar loans? We’re not on the hook because of the individual… we r on the hook because banks got greedy and RESOLD those mortgages for MORE than they were worth.

No, its not the individuals that need babysitting… its the banks.

ok, so… WHY are you still here then???? You want to talk about how BAD this state/country is… why are you still here???

You are all about capitalism… to make the most money possible at all costs…. well obviously by your argument… this state… and country SUCKS… so why are you here??

YOu hate what this country has become, our president, our ideals of helping those less fortunate…. so leave. really, its that simple.

Think India is the haven you have been looking for… less taxes, cheap labor…GO, really.

We get it, you hate the current state of the USA. Leave so your taxes can be 15% instead of 28%. we get it. leave. You will be much better off.

And please don’t spout how you want to ‘save’ us…. It’s all about YOU and what you can profit…there are greener pastures elsewhere as you have argued. Leave if you hate America so much.

“Dare ya to read at least this one…. make your U-Haul reservations early”

    Have you made yours???

kootch: WA can be dead last in “business-friendly atmosphere” for all i care. those numbers are put out by conservatives to show whose taxes are highest.

    in reality, they mean nothing.

they serve as a nice scare tactic for guys like you, though; guys who insist that everything must be run like a business (a business with no overhead, no less) or it’s simply going to fail – or worse, that it’s not worth doing.

i hate to break this to you, but we have better things to do than babysit business all day, every day. we don’t need to craft every damned policy around taxation and “the cost of doing business.” or sit around biting our nails, hoping to god that boeing doesn’t decide to get mean.

as a matter of fact, i’m going to borrow one of your macho b.s. tough-business-love catch phrases: life is hard. wear a cup. if you can’t afford to pay taxes and fees in washington state, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. and certainly don’t expect us to craft policies around you and your specific needs.

You will care. I don’t want WA state to HAVE to craft any special deals, breaks, exemptions… just stop sitting around crafting “new” ways to dip the ole government beak into every possible nook and cranny where there may be an unspent penny. It’s not IF I can stay…or IF a business CAN come to WA… it’s about if they choose to. You know damn well Boeing built that SC plant for the successor to the great 737..the current Dreamliner NLRB issue aside.. Curious, though, who do you think will generate the wealth and income to cover the projected 2.8 billion dollar deficit? (bty CNBC is hardly the “right wing voice of authority)…. Who is going to be around to pay the 5-6 Billion pension deficit for WA state workers? The 5-6 Billion the state sorta forgot to pay. You guys are playing ostrich economics….sticking the old head in the sand and hoping..it will all sorta solve itself… take any media source ya want…. at random…review the pension deficits of the various states, include good old WA. the.. these numbers really do mean something.. whistle past the graveyard my friend if it helps. Take a wee, micro micro look at our very own WS….how many businesses have churned over and over and over on CA Ave? Yikes! And these are low capital, labor intense jobs.which WA needs and are much easier to form..the very place where sales taxes are collected to support WA state. While the feds do have a printing press…WA doesn’t. WA is right in the middle employee wise… which means… we can’t transit to finance or high tech economy without a substantial upgrade to our work force education/skill set, or we will have to import that workforce. We still need a manufacturing base…which in turn supports the retail base. I am well past the inclination to start up another business. For better or worse I made my bean and other than user fees, (which are optional), property taxes,(unavoidable) sales taxes with planning also avoidable for high value durable goods) so I am low on the Dept of Revenue radar..I am in preservation not generation mode. Since I have started a number of businesses . know how, and the resources it takes ( do you?) I assure you…it is considerably harder today and less likely to happen here. I wouldn’t try it again even if I could distort space and time and return to those days. like I said.. ya do the best ya can do with what ya got… when you gamble my friend, you sit down at the table with the best odds.

This not a ya ya ya … thread… it’s started as a hisss at UW for unjustified tuition hikes and failure to meet their obligations to cost effectively educate the children of the taxpayers who support them.

You still here kootch?…. you’re losing money every day by being in the worst state to do business, the most expensive public schools, the horrific taxes, etc etc etc… just sayin before you lose all your hard earned money to ‘wealth distribution’ – start revving that u-haul of yours.

” it’s started as a hisss at UW for unjustified tuition hikes”

yet somehow you falsely accuse the CRA as a reason for the real estate meltdown somewhere in your UW argument… and yet we are to take you seriously when you make such blatant lies. There may be problems at UW… but when you spout such ignorant statements… hard to take you seriously.
