WSBKeymasterAs first reported on WSB last week
Now an update from Teri at Furry Faces. Publishing on the home page later today but for a while, snow will have to stay atop the page, so here’s Teri’s update:
============
Wanted to give you a quick update on donations from our West Seattle Community. The attached file provides a list of all donations to date, [except for donations made at Petco as their Petco Truck is picking up at all their locations and delivering the donations directly to the shelters]. (TR note, we will harvest numbers from the “attached file” later for the HP update).
All of our participating pet supply stores in West Seattle that have store locations outside of West (Best) Seattle, have informed us that those locations are also accepting donations.
Also of note is the addition of Muttley Crew Cuts as one of the businesses accepting donations for the seized dogs and puppies. They saw the donation drive on WSB and emailed us, wanting to be part of the team. If any other business would like to particpate, please send us an email at furryfaces@hotmail.com and we’ll add you to the list, plus provide signs/flyers and a collection container if needed. If anyone is interested in helping to deliver the donated items, that would be wonderful too.
Below is a revised list of the participating businesses.
Admiral District:
Mud Bay; 2611 Calif. Ave SW (dog food & supplies only)
Muttley Crew Cuts Co; 3707 Calif. Ave SW
Alaska Junction:
Hotwire Online Coffeehouse; 4410 Calif. Ave SW (dog food & supplies only)
Petco: 4732 Calif. Ave SW
Alki: All the Best Pet Care; 2820 Alki Ave SW
Morgan Junction:
Pet Elements; 6701 Calif. Ave SW
The Wash Dog; 6400 Calif. Ave SW
Westwood Village: Pet Pros; 9033 25th Ave SW
======
Teri also tells us that for now, the rescuers are fairly well stocked with food, so what they REALLY need is:
1. Lots and lots of toys for small to sm/med sized dogs
2. Lots of wee wee pads/puppy training pads
3. Bedding—beds, blankets, towels, etc.
They took a ton of donations up to Snohomish County late yesterday and again express gratitude for everybody’s help.

ellenaterMemberPet Elements had a full doantion barrel as of yesterday or the day before. That’s pretty cool! I’m surprised they don’t need volunteers to help with the doggies. WHAT are they going to do with all those dogs? Crazy.

alki_2008ParticipantI can see them having enough folks to help with caring for the dogs, and I’m sure at some point having more people just becomes a problem (ie, too many cooks in the kitchen). It’s a good sign when a group doesn’t need more volunteers. :)
However, I’m sure there are plenty of slots for giving the dogs a permanent home. I wonder if they’ve begun adopting the dogs out yet – or is it still too early? I think they’re going to keep the dogs impounded for a while to check out health issues and maybe document things for the criminal case against the “breeder”.
Backyard breeders and puppy mills. Ugh!!!

ellenaterMemberAgreed. Ya, it is a good sign that they have enough volunteers. I wonder if they’ll have any fostering opps.

dawn211MemberI am a Humane Society supporter and received an email today from them. The dogs cannot be adopted or fostered right now due to the criminal investigation. They took in 57 dogs. See below:
PUPPY MILL UPDATE
Seattle Humane Society Shelters
57 Dogs from Puppy Mill Bust
When law enforcement officials raided the puppy mills in Skagit and Snohomish counties, the Seattle Humane Society was ready to help.
Our Shelter Manager and one assistant responded to the calls for help. Leaving with two vans filled with dog crates, they returned to the Seattle Humane Society with 57 neglected, hungry, flea-infested little dogs. The lucky dogs are now safe and comfortable. We’ve given them baths, flea treatments, vaccinations and basic medical care. Now they’re getting nutritious food and a warm place to sleep at the Seattle Humane Society.
We need your help. Please help us care for these dogs by making a generous donation today. These little Yorkies, Poodles and Chihuahuas are evidence in a criminal investigation so they must remain in our protective custody and can’t go to individual volunteer foster homes or be made available for adoption at this time. If there’s a trial, the dogs may be in our care for a long time.
As the criminal investigation continues, law enforcement officers have asked us to work with them. We’re ready to take in even more of these needy dogs who were bred in squalor to produce puppies for sale by pet stores and through the Internet.
With four million companion animals being put to death in U.S. shelters every year, keeping animals solely to produce puppies without the love and care of human companionship is unconscionable. These dogs have been kept in small cages without adequate food, exercise, medical care or companionship. Despite this, they still wag their tails and look at us with hope.
Please help us help them today.
Thank you so much for your calls and emails of concern and offers to help. If you can, please make a donation today toward the care of these special little dogs.
Sincerely,
Brenda F. Barnette
Chief Executive Officer
Seattle Humane Society

hammerheadParticipantON side note, Call your legislators, congressman and any other official. Washington state laws need to change drastically so this doesn’t happen again.. Why did they have to wait till 200 dogs, why not 100 or less. Then having to let the babies be born, as stated above there are so many animals needing homes and being put to sleep. No one likes the word abortion but that is what needs to be done to pregnants as we don’t need any more babies being born and who knows what the condition the puppies will be born in. In most of these cases they have horrible mental and physical issues. I know the humane society and other organizations will do there best but
since the law won’t let the dogs be aborted we have even more dogs that need homes. Our law system is so slow. This should have never gotten this bad period there is no excuse but again our laws suck here, hopefully this will start a change.
