SonomaParticipantCan anyone recommend a reputable company that will inspect my house for mold/mildew? Has anyone used a company called Environix? Or is there a government agency that would handle the inspection? Thank you.

thansenMemberI used Environix during my years in real estate and personally for a law suit against my home builder. They are professional, took several air quality tests and gave me great advice. There is no “govenment agency” for stuff like this unless you’re in a Federal building.
BE VERY CARFUL with mold, it is deadly and can cause a lot of damage to your lungs, etc…

triplecpMemberJust like thansen said be careful. Especially if it’s what’s commonly known as black mold, stuff is toxic and you definitely don’t want it to spread. I’ve had some mold problem in the house before ( rental unfortunately, and landlord is less than accommodating ) and had to take matters into my own hands. If you are doing some cleaning make sure and seal off other rooms from the area you’re working in. This way mold will have less of a chance to spread into other areas, you’ll also want to mist it with water before cleaning as the spores of dry mold will have more ability to disperse through the air. Hopefully your case isn’t too bad, I’ve had to replace some drywall in my place.
Hope you can get it handled reasonably. Good luck !

SonomaParticipantThanks, everyone. And, thansen, I was very pleased with Robert Peterson of American Mold Inspection (425-770-4375). Robert really knows his stuff and is an interesting person to boot — a former fire chief in two districts! For expert testing and advice on mold , I highly recommend him.
