I wonder how sugarcoated tonight’s speech will be? I’d rather hear him talk about his vacation to Hawai’i than how he’s planning to continue the economy’s growth.

Word is there will be NO discussion of financial crime…you know, the stuff that got us here to begin with?

I would love to see a parade down Wall Street of tarred and feathered bankers, hog-tied to poles – but it ain’t gonna happen.

Although now I’m hearing about a 5-year spending freeze. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am starting to like this fella more and more…..

I heard that the Republicans and Democrats are both playing quarters and beer pong games with each other before they gallop into The House of Representatives.

On another note, Obama should come out and remind America what mess we were in when he was elected. Then he gradually digresses into the economic woes that we are still in.

But jiggers, he can’t do that — to point out the obvious would be DISruptive. I’m interested in two things: whether any of the supremes show up (or if they’re too busy speaking, as scalia did, to the tea party caucus of the house) and whether he dares to advocate any sort of gun control (bans on 30 shot automatics? plastic guns that defy airport screenings?)

I’ll wait for the Cliff’s notes to see if either happens. BTW, if you miss the State of the Union, you can watch the much more popular Bill O’Reilly interview with Obama before the Superbowl. I look forward to the follow-up interview with Rachel Maddow.

I’m waiting for Michelle Bachmann’s rebuttal…was just listening to Chris Matthews…it will definitely be interesting! (pay attention to what she says about slavery)

    drinking game? start out slowly.

when obama says, “make no mistake,” take a drink.

like smitty said, when he says, “investment,” take a sip.

if he says, “now now nooowww… look.” take two drinks.

bachmann? end the evening with a guaranteed hangover: take a drink every time she says, “socialist,” or “socialism.”

like jan said, if bachmann says, “slavery?” bottoms up.

That drinking game takes too much concentration.

A very good speech. Now let’s see how the Republicans twist it into negativity.

I’m still listening, thanks to Tivo and I have to say, damn he’s good. First he mentions repeal of “don’t ask don’t tell” and in the next paragraph says we have to welcome military recruiters to campus. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. So I can do both.

BTW, 6 of 9 Supremes showed up, including Chief Justice Roberts. Scalia, Thomas, and Alito were otherwise occupied.

My drinking game will begin *BEFORE* Paul Ryan and Michelle Bachmann. With luck, I will asleep before they start.

She’s not going to be on the tee-vee. She’s on some teaparty’s webcast, though I’m sure the MSM will cover it thoroughly. :-)

CNN had her on…was fairly short…and she was looking over your shoulder, not directly at the camera….kinda disconcerting :)

I actually thought Obama’s speech came out pretty conservative if you ask me. He played it safe, very safe.

I agree, Jiggers — that, plus the mixed seating of R’s and D’s made it very difficult for people to know when to applaud and stand up. If you want to see something cool, watch the speech on whitehouse.gov. Not only did they simulcast, they had slides and other graphics illustrating his points.

Too add: If you go back and watch every president before Obama give the State of the Union, they all have the same language and tell us what we want to hear, but in different forms. It’s no different.

Smitty, last year it was a three year freeze. Carry the one, divide by Netflix, multiply a piecost by 2, and add a henway.
